Morris-Erickson Campground provides a straightforward and amenity-focused approach to camping, making it a suitable choice for those whose primary goal is to enjoy Long Lake and have a comfortable base. Its role as a county park often means it adheres to certain standards of maintenance and accessibility, catering to a broad public.

This article will provide a comprehensive overview of Morris-Erickson Campground, detailing its specific location and accessibility, the services it offers, its key features and highlights, and essential contact information. We will also conclude by explaining why this particular campground is well-suited for Wisconsin locals, offering a practical and enjoyable option for experiencing the state's beautiful lakes and outdoor lifestyle.

Location and Accessibility

Morris-Erickson Campground is specifically located at 28561 WI-40, New Auburn, WI 54757, USA. This direct placement on Wisconsin Highway 40 makes it incredibly accessible for campers traveling by car or RV from various parts of the state. New Auburn is situated in Chippewa County, within Wisconsin's beautiful Northwoods region, known for its extensive forests and numerous lakes.

The campground's immediate adjacency to WI-40 is a double-edged sword for accessibility. On one hand, it offers unparalleled ease of arrival and departure, minimizing the time spent navigating rural roads. This is a significant advantage for those who prioritize straightforward travel, especially for weekend trips or when towing large recreational vehicles. For locals coming from larger cities or other areas of Wisconsin, a direct highway connection streamlines the journey considerably.

On the other hand, as one reviewer noted, being "located directly adjacent to HWY 40" means "listening to traffic" might be a part of the camping experience. For campers who seek absolute silence and seclusion, this proximity to a state highway is a consideration. However, for those who value convenience, easy access to and from the campground for supplies, local attractions, or event participation (such as a family gathering or local festival), the highway location is a distinct benefit.

The campground's prime location on Long Lake near New Auburn is arguably its most significant geographical asset. Long Lake is renowned for its "clear waters," making it an excellent destination for a variety of water-based activities. Campers have direct access to the lake, which is ideal for swimming, fishing, boating, and potentially even scuba diving, as the clear waters suggest. The availability of docks further enhances lake accessibility for those with boats, providing convenient moorage.

For Wisconsin locals, this direct lake access is a major draw. Many Wisconsinites own boats or enjoy fishing, and a campground that offers such immediate proximity to a quality lake simplifies their outdoor plans. The surrounding New Auburn area provides a rural, natural setting characteristic of the Northwoods, allowing for other outdoor pursuits like hiking or wildlife observation in nearby public lands, even if the immediate campground is closer to the highway.

The presence of a "very friendly and helpful" park attendant also contributes to the campground's accessibility, not just physically, but in terms of support and guidance for campers. This personal assistance can make the arrival and setup process smoother, especially for those unfamiliar with the campground or needing local information.

In summary, Morris-Erickson Campground offers exceptional road accessibility due to its location on WI-40, coupled with prime direct access to Long Lake. While the highway noise is a consideration, the convenience and direct connection to a beautiful body of water make it a practical and appealing choice for Wisconsin residents.

For locals, this personal touch can make a significant difference, offering assistance, local insights, and fostering a welcoming atmosphere that many Wisconsinites appreciate. This support enhances the overall ease and enjoyment of the camping experience.

This campground is located directly adjacent to HWY 40, so if listening to traffic is something you enjoy while camping, then go here. They have flush toilets but no sinks in the bathrooms. There is not privacy between campsites. The lake setting is pretty and they do have private docks. Camped here in a pinch but won't be returning.

Small campground with fairly tight spaces. Lake is very clean, with a nice sandy bottom beach. At night and early mornings you hear the loons. No water hook ups, electric only. The public bathroom is clean and the camp attendant is onsite, friendly and helpful. Lots of little panfish can be caught from shore, which my daughter really enjoyed . Overall nice clean campground and the only reason I give it only 3 stars is that the sites are close together. Did see 30+ ft bumper pulls and 5th wheels so despite close. quarters, some big rigs make it work.
