Customer Reviews
For years I have been camping at Bolar Mountain, but because it closes early in the season this time I stayed at Morris Hill. Despite the mixed reviews, I found Morris Hill to be a perfectly adequate campground. It has bathrooms with free hot showers, clean water to drink, firewood for sale, (and during my stay) a very helpful camp host. The campsites have enough room for 2 small tents and 2 cars. None of the campsites have a view of the water. You can see glimpses of blue through the trees, but that is it. There are trails at the campground, but they go to the visitors’ center. They do not go to the lake, or even to a view of the lake. If you want to enjoy the water you will need to drive. Luckily Coles Point is beautiful and less than 10 minutes away. And there is a boat ramp even closer. The campsites are relatively close together. I can imagine how noise and privacy could bother people during the busy season - but this was not an issue post Labor Day. If you are looking for water views and to be able to walk to the lake, you’ll want to stay at Bolar Mountain Campground. But if you don’t mind driving to the water, this end of the lake is also beautiful and worth a visit!
I was across from the bathhouse and it was lovely there. The reason it did not get 5 stars is the conditions in the bathhouse. Bug infested, with spiders rampant and webs not knocked down, floors unclean, and shower curtains hanging with insects was unpleasant. The site host who was local and maintained the grounds, helped me find a good place to get an oil change, so he is not the problem. The site host couple who were to maintain the restrooms lacked understanding. Even the sink was full of bugs. I still recommend this campground, just be aware.
Todd and arma Lee are excellent camp hosts! Very convient for fishing the Jackson River! Nice people, nice campground! Love staying here
We stayed at campsite 048 and it was GREAT! I love this place! We were close by the restroom which had plenty of toilet papers and hot water for showers. Yeah you’re going to see small bugs in sink because you’re out in nature. I used a Clorox wipe to wiped down the sink and toilet seat before use. The bathrooms aren’t the prettiest and can use a little fresh paint on the flooring but, who cares? If you’re camping you’re there to connect with nature. My husband and I honestly didn’t expect any bathrooms to be open due to COVID. So it was a plus for us to be able to use hot showers after adventuring out to nearby springs and doing day adventures and exploring. I’ve added some photos for all to see. Cellphone reception was awesome! We had signal at our site. Something to keep in mind if you’re not trying to disconnect completely from life lol. Everything was prefect and we will definitely be back soon!
Campsite 7 has no cell service- so be aware! We moved to 21 and had much much better reception. I don’t recommend the hiking trail- it is not well kept and we got lost. The hike to the lake is very long. Other than that, my heart was broken for the camp host’s dog- who barked at all hours- which they try to mitigate by zapping the living daylights out of him with a zap collar!
