Customer Reviews
I stayed at the campground. I had a nice level back in site. Perfect. The location of this KOA is excellent due to its proximity to many attractions and great hiking trails. The facility was busy but at night it quieted down. The store is large with many items. The grounds are well kept and bathrooms/showers were clean. I would ask that you clean the bathrooms/showers a couple hours later. 9am is busy.
Requested and paid for a 45’ pull through with truck (61’ total) and got a 42’ space, so our trailer stuck out in both front and back access roads. We had to park our truck way from our site which was also disappointing and very inconvenient. We were terribly worried that someone would want to get out in the middle of the night and snag our coach. Word the wise and a warning -This campsite is designed for families, so if you want a low key place, this is not it. Go slow as kids are riding bikes unattended as well as small ones walking into the street ways as well. Disappointed in the property control as well. This is like animal house except for small children. Pros- it’s close to both monuments. Cons- Small children left unattended in the hot tub after 9:30p, which would have been nice after a very long day of travel. . Again, definitely not for the older couple who want a comfortable and quiet stay. Unfortunately will find another place on our next time through.
First time at a KOA and I was impressed! Our campground was clean and simple, met all our needs. The bathrooms were clean. The pool/playground amenities were super fun, but the jacuzzi seriously needs to be cleaned as does the water slide. The breakfasts here were reasonable and the servers were friendly. Would come back here again!
First, great location only minutes from Mount Rushmore! This place is perfect for families because there is SO MUCH to do at the campground. The showers and bathrooms were always clean and the park is well maintained. And, the staff was friendly and helpful when needed. Would definitely recommend them and would stay at again if in the area!
Campground is very large and mostly well maintained but campsites were tight. Escort to site was very nice! The Peak restaurant was okay. Close to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse! “Polkapalozza” was fun and food good! Most of the advertised amenities were closed and we still paid FULL price - “all you can eat pancakes” - movies - trail rides - chuck wagon - rodeo - 2 of 3 laundry areas - 1 of 2 pools - shops (ice cream, fudge, wine/espresso, pizza, wings…) - bikes - gold panning WiFi was non-existent, difficult getting in and out of campground as heavy construction. We were advised above amenities closed mid September!
Stayed in a cabin. Had everything I needed. Very comfortable. The location of the KOA is wonderful. Everything in the Black Hills is so close. The scenery around the KOA is gorgeous. Staff were lovely and helpful. Shout out to Tina in the gift shop. She gave me some excellent tips for hikes and things to do close by. Would definitely stay here again!
5 stars isn't high enough for Jenny and her team! We stayed a couple days last week and encountered an issue during our stay, which prompted attention. Jenny and her team, even after hours was super attentive and made our stay nothing short of amazing. We had an awesome start to our roadtrip vacation, having stayed here before and recommend it to all of friends, this visit concreted we will not stay anywhere else but here. Thank you Jenny!
Mt. Rushmore KOA Resort at Palmer Gulch is an interesting location, chosen for its proximity to the iconic Mount Rushmore. However, it’s important to note that the reality of the resort doesn’t quite match the glossy images you see on their Google profile, which make it appear far more appealing. We stayed at the RV park, which provides basic amenities for RVs, but don’t expect anything extraordinary. The resort’s facilities, while functional, are showing signs of wear and could use some updating. At its peak, this place may have been a top destination, but today it feels rather average. The snack bar, run by what seems to be local high school students, is a popular spot but doesn’t offer stellar customer service. The pool area, crowded and questionable in terms of cleanliness, is best avoided. While the resort offers additional restrooms and showers, they’re more of a last resort than a convenient option. There are activities for kids, including mini golf and a playground, as well as a small fishing pond, though you’ll need a fishing license to fish. Despite being stocked, the pond proved disappointing for catching fish. The beautiful forest setting is a plus, and the location is convenient for visiting Mount Rushmore. However, this is not the luxury resort it may appear to be on the website.
Wow there was so much amazingness going on here. Not a big crowd right before summer we thought we hit the jackpot.... then they put us in a cabin next to the cart rentals... well half my camping photos have golf carts in them now. We walked around the huge beautiful site and saw sooooo many cabins like the one we were staying in not in use in much better locations. It kinda ruined it for me im not gonna lie.
