Climbed my first ever Ultra! Honestly I had no idea what I was getting into. I’m from Jersey born and raised where the elevation is never higher than 2,500ft. Starting off the hike I was feeling strong and energized. Made it all the way to the top before the altitude started kicking my butt. The mountain station is somewhere around 8500 ft, but the top is 10,834, so something in the realm of 2,000+ vert for this hike. Definitely not even CLOSE to the hardest of the 57 ultras but NOT something to snuff at either! If you’re going to try and catch sunset like we did….BRING HEADLAMPS! (Duh) Every mistake was a learning experience and I’m glad I started here! To the absolute beast of a fella I ran into on “Cactus to Clouds” (Look up how hard of a hike that is): I aspire to be as crazy as you one day. Thank you for the nourishment and the morale boost. You’re a psycho, but a good man nonetheless.

I summitted Mt. San Jacinto on May 9, 2024 amid heavy snowpack. It is a challenging hike and very rewarding. If there is snow you'll need spikes and an ice axe. I would also recommend walking sticks to catch yourself if you slide down the ice.

Beautiful mountain! Great views at sunrise, low snowpack. 4am start and hard snow made for easy traversing. The homie Nick and I even found some Baja Blast mountain dew at the summit. No spikes necessary.

When Palm Springs is in the 100s, the mountain breeze helped a little on the hike. Drink plenty of water!
