Popular campground, backpacking and day hikes and the lake is was beautiful. 15miles of unpaved road to Mowich lake camp there's not a lot of potholes yet. Get there early to find a good parking spot or you'll end up parking on the side of the road.
Came here on a cloudy, drizzling day and couldn’t see Mt Rainier. The last 15 miles on 165 is gravel, not paved and rocky so be prepared to drive longer than expected. We will have to come next time when the weather is good. I can only imagine how beautiful it will be. The campground looks nice.
Beautiful lake. Water is crystal clear. Not too cold for swimming. There 4 to 5 camping spots for drive in and most of the rests 10 to 12 are reserved for pass holders and wilderness hikers. Two rest rooms. A wheelbaro is available to transport your camping gear to and from the camping site. It's a bear country and all items must be stored in the steel storage box available for each camping spot for free. No fire, no flying drones and no feeding wild animals. There are bunch of hiking trails from the lake. The highlight of trails is Tilmie Peak which is rated as moderated 5.6mi out and back trails. My 5 years old son did it as a piece of cake. Camping is free but the park entrance fee is $30 per car and is good for 7 days. Annual pass is $55. Also have 4th grader annual pass. 15 mile dirt road and the speed limit is 25mph for most part of the road. Last few miles are 30mph. Dusty winding road and you can have beautiful views of mount Rainier on the way if the weather is clear.
This is has been THE BEST mistake i have ever made!!!! Two years ago we wanted to visit for the first time Mt. Rainier, and I did a google search and this is where it brought us, to Mowich Campground! Not exactly where we wanted to go, we were actually looking for the the “main” entrance! But we were THRILLED! What views, it truly is a sight for sore eyes!! My heart was grateful at such beauty!! The parking is very limited so I suggest you coning in early, but the funny thing is you barely see anyone around, they are all hiking! Lol! The bathrooms are outhouses, but VERY WELL MAINTAINED!! Very clean and very little smell! So this time we went on purpose! This time we took Pops, who wanted to release his late wife’s ashes back to the earth!! And what better resting place than this?? To say the least she was very happy too, because the video i took captured an orb and a butterfly at the same time! It was a very touching for us! I highly recommend this beautiful camping ground!
Mowich Lake is absolutely beautiful. I visited here with my family, and there are beautiful hiking trails, and the lake itself is gorgeous. In fact, I went swimming in the lake, and the water is extremely blue, extremely clear, and extremely cold. I would highly recommend visiting here, just keep in mind that in order to get to it, you have to drive on a rough gravel road for over 10 miles. Plus there's no cell service, making Mowich Lake even more peaceful. You also have to either pay for a discovery pass (year long), or pay $5 to visit for the day, but every penny is worth it. Love this place
