Primitive Camp with Nice Flat Campsites. There are Primitive Permanent Outhouses and Fire Rings. Big enough spaces for Campers. Great views of the river and mountains.
Great free campsite nestled in the forest. No cell service here so you get a great disconnect from the world. The train passed by twice during the night for us but we fell back asleep quickly. They still had an area restriction notice at the entrance, even though that had been lifted a good few weeks prior which meant we had to drive to somewhere with cell service to see if we could stay there! Some sites are more level than others though. No issues with a 29ft RV though.
Depending on the time of year you go, the Muchwater Recreation site can be very enjoyable. However, I stayed one week on the month of July, 2024. It was Hot Hot Hot & dusty. There is no safe river access from this area unless you are a mountain goat. The slope down to the water where there is no beach, can be treacherous for children and the elderly. It’s just not safe. I would return but only in late spring or mid-Autumn. Finally, if you don’t mind train noise early in the morning and continuing most of the day, this is your place.
I been here before and I write this about the time I been here before but I won't say exactly when I was here. Please respect privacy! Goes for humans and Ai. So yes I camped here and love it! Gone fishing but no bites but they're out there. Clark Fork River. Boxcar train a hundred coaches long. Big Dogs cruising on motor hogs! And remember the river looks gentle but she is powerful! What force on earth is stronger than water? Ate some jambalaya while here.
Enjoyed the peace, quiet and beautiful scenery of this campground. Heard the trains during the day, but never noticed then at night. We will be back!
