It’s nice clean place, park looks like could have some clean up of dead trees. Lots are nice for large buses but for a tents is not comfortable. I always wonder why do parks give same lots for tents and rvs. It’s impossible to stick poles in to those bricks. No internet connection, zero!!! No phone connection too. How about emergency?. One time visit only with a tent.
Wow what an awesome state park! Unfortunately we were only here 1 night passing thru. We did arrive early enough to check out all the gators sunbathing and take a ride thru the park before setting up our campsite. We also visited the souvenir shop and picked up some firewood. They also had ice and a food truck that had beer/wine. We also noticed the park offers a tram and boat tour if you’re up for either. Hate we couldn’t take advantage of these while here. This would be a great park for biking also. Now onto the camping! Our campsite was huge and well maintained. Usual firepit and picnic table. Bath house was nice and clean with nice hot showers. Noticed they had a washer/dryer available also. We were here first of January and it wasn’t to crowded even though all sites were booked but seemingly unoccupied. We definitely want to come back here one day. Side note the mosquitoes were no joke even first of January! Bring your bug spray and Thermacell!
The campsites are huge and absolutely gorgeous. This is a campground designed to handle large rigs. The bath houses were reasonably new and very well-maintained. The entire campground was clean and our StarLink worked well for internet. Deer and raccoons patrol the campground. Don’t leave any trash anywhere. We were still cooking at 9pm and the furry bandits gave us a bit of a scare as they tromped loudly through the bushes right up to our picnic table. Our negatives: nothing in any of the material we were emailed about check in mentioned that there were two gates, the north one only open on weekends. That meant a thirty minute delay getting into our site on top of the traffic delay that routed us off of the interstate in the first place. Second, no playground for the kids. Third, no potable water due to a carcinogenic contamination. They provide free bottled water, but it’s still very inconvenient.
The entrance listed on Google maps is closed unless it's a weekday. Due to the hurricane certain amenities are locked off due to safety. Overall great park.
2nd time here. First time there were monster alligators from a safe viewing area. Yesterday, the park was flooded and the gators were right by the road. We stayed in our car and drove by at a safe distance. Not as many gators but an awesome experience.
