A really cool spot to camp. Stayed here while I explored Pensacola. Completely free, you just have to make a reservation. I would recommend site 6 or 7 I stayed at both. Site 6 is a lot more open, but site 7 is more secluded and overlooks a beautiful pond. I was never bothered, no law enforcement issues. I did fill up multiple bags with trash that previous campers left, which is a shame. There’s a porta john, trash cans everywhere, and you are about 30 minutes away from a grocery store, so make sure you pack what you need. I had great cell service as well.
This is a great place! You can't beat free! It's a beautiful area with designated camp sites that must be reserved online. It's on the Escambia River and also a small lake (more like a pond). As others have noted, there's some trash here and there. It's sad because there are many trash cans but some people can't be bothered to use them. I picked up three plastic bags full of mostly glass beer bottles on day one. A few can ruin it for the rest of us. Please don't be that person. I would totally stay here again! We stayed at site #7, which is on Mystic Lake, for two nights in December.
R.I.P. for the Blonde Raccoon that went missing, ? possibly killed, over Memorial Day Weekend. ‘Her’ tree was at Campsite #4. That was HER home. She had babies in that tree…, that have surely perished. No one has seen her since that day when I heard the gun shots ring out. She was used to campers, they ‘invaded’ her home regularly, so she was not scared to be around people. She didn’t hurt anyone. We will miss her. And we will never get to see her babies, would they be blonde too? We’ll never find out.
Lovely campground and the price is right! Well kept, we had lot 7 which is super secluded and by the water. Sadly, there is some dumping in some of the more wooded areas. But we got a bag of apples and about 20lbs of sweet potatoes. What’s not to love?
Quiet and peaceful, well spaced campsites. Reserve online
One of our favorite local camping spots! The lake is spring-fed, and the area is teeming with wildlife. It's a great place for birdwatching and fishing! The campsites are free, but you must register for them on camplife.com. There are eight regular sites and one group site, and each has a fire ring, picnic table, grill, and covered area. There are also portable toilets provided. They are great (mostly level) sites for tents, cars, vans, or other small travel vehicles. Most sites are on the smaller side, so a bigger rig would not fit. There is no water, electric, or dump station provided. It's off-grid boondocking at its best.
