Names Hill Campground Introduce
Names Hill Campground offers a unique camping experience in the heart of Kemmerer, Wyoming. Nestled in a rugged landscape, this historic site provides access to a variety of outdoor activities and natural beauty, making it a destination for those seeking adventure and history.
The campground is situated near public lands, offering easy access to hiking trails and fishing spots on the Green River. Despite its proximity to these attractions, the main highway nearby can bring road noise, which may disrupt those looking for peace and quiet.
Visitors to Names Hill Campground will find basic camping options with vault toilets available on-site. While there are fire pits for cooking, most campsites lack modern amenities like water and power. Those with self-contained units can stay overnight, though it's important to note that only one developed site offers these conveniences.
One of the standout features of Names Hill Campground is its historical significance. The site boasts a rich past, drawing history buffs eager to explore its legacy. However, potential visitors should be aware of the campground's current state, as it has been described as run-down with overgrown weeds and limited developed sites.
Customer feedback highlights both the charm and challenges of this unique location. Many appreciate the historical value and convenience for exploring nearby attractions, though some have noted issues with maintenance and noise levels from the highway. Despite these drawbacks, the campground is considered a worthwhile stop for those willing to embrace the rustic experience.
- Historic site offering access to outdoor activities

- Limited amenities and potential noise from nearby highway
- Suitable for off-grid adventurers and history enthusiasts
While Names Hill Campground may not appeal to everyone due to its condition, it remains a testament to the area's history and a stop worth considering for those who enjoy rugged camping and exploring Wyoming's outdoors.

Customer Reviews
The campground itself is much less attractive than the photos indicate. There is only one developed site and the rest of the possible campsites are without any amenities. The vault toilet looks like it sustained some damage in the past but is functional. Main highway close by with road noise. The best way to describe this campground is run down party place. We visited September 2023.
Very cool history. The weeds are out of control, but it’s worth a stop.
