The hike up to the overlook wasn't bad at all. It's a nice, quiet spot to sit and enjoy nature. There's not much to see, though, probably because it's not high enough. It's in a small, rural area, so be sure to bring snacks and fill up your gas tank. I didn't find it impressive. And, you can't go inside the chimney rocks.
I think I saw this on somebody’s social media post and we were in the area so we stopped to check it out on a Sunday afternoon in early March. It was a beautiful day but cold. What you see in my pics is pretty much it as far as the chimneys go. There wa ms a trail to hike up to the top and we could see an overlook but we did not go up. The chimneys are fenced off and there is signage to not go behind the fence. Evidently they do some housing here just around the back of the chimneys. No one was doing it while we were here but you could see the area and we noticed it on the map. There were park restrooms nearby. I looked a the park map and it looks like there is a lot of space to enjoy nature and maybe go for a hike. It was interesting to see for sure. I wouldn’t drive the whole way out here from a very far distance just to see it but if you are in the area why not. Bring a lunch and enjoy the park.
Natural Chimneys Park is a fantastic destination for families and nature enthusiasts alike! The star of the park is definitely the towering limestone “chimneys,” which stand up to 120 feet high and create an impressive and scenic backdrop. These rock formations are incredible to see up close, and they offer plenty of photo opportunities. The park is well-kept with clean picnic areas, open grassy spaces, and shaded spots perfect for relaxing or having a picnic. Kids will love exploring around the chimneys, and the whole park feels very family-friendly. During the summer, there’s also an annual jousting tournament here – it’s the oldest continuously held jousting event in the U.S. and a unique experience for visitors. Natural Chimneys Park is easy to reach and offers an unforgettable experience for anyone looking to enjoy Virginia’s natural beauty. Highly recommend it for a fun and relaxing day trip!
We loved this place! Just a beautiful, spacious, and immaculately maintained campground. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The camp host Anita was so sweet, she went out of her way to help me. The Natural Chimneys are really amazing! It was peaceful and relaxing. Highly Recommended.
If you haven't been it's worth the drive, beautiful country roads and the chimneys were awesome.
