New Camp Campground is exceptionally suitable for locals across Southern California for several key reasons, positioning it as a practical and unique desert escape. Firstly, its accessibility is a major draw. While offering a distinct "away from it all" feeling, it's within a reasonable driving distance for many residents of the Coachella Valley, San Diego, and even parts of Los Angeles. This makes it an ideal spot for a quick weekend getaway or a longer mid-week break, allowing Californians to easily access a different natural environment without extensive travel.
Secondly, the amenities offered at New Camp Campground strike a fantastic balance between traditional camping and comfort. For many locals who appreciate outdoor recreation but also value clean facilities, hot showers, and spacious sites with hookups for RVs, New Camp delivers. This makes it particularly appealing for families, first-time campers, or those with RVs who might shy away from more primitive desert camping options. The "awesome for a paid campground" sentiment from a reviewer underscores the value and quality of these services.
Lastly, the unique landscape of the Salton Sea, with its incredible birdwatching opportunities and stunning sunrises and sunsets, offers a distinctive natural experience that contrasts sharply with California's more common coastal or mountain destinations. While the presence of the nearby railroad and its associated noise is a consideration for "lite sleepers," as one reviewer pointed out, for many, the trade-off for the clean facilities, spacious sites, and unique natural beauty is well worth it. It provides an opportunity to explore a lesser-known but historically and ecologically significant part of California, offering a sense of adventure and discovery right in our own backyard. For locals seeking a clean, accommodating, and unique desert camping adventure, New Camp Campground is a highly recommended destination.

A beautiful campground situated near the Salton Sea. I booked site 43 with hookup, it's spacious but has minimal shade and open area. Ranger here is nice and helpful. The restroom is kept clean and trash is picked up daily by them. The only thing that bothers me is the railroad and the train passing by so frequently, even at night and morning. If you are a lite sleeper, then I would not recommend this Campground. The sound of the train can be quite loud. We couldn't sleep at all on the first night.
This place is awesome for a paid campground. Sites are layed out perfectly, I could have put two Casita travel trailers with trucks in my spot #47. $20 per night includes a huge site complete with a huge concrete picnic table, a ramada, a fire pit as well as very easy access to potable water and trash, RV dump, hot showers and and a beautiful beach with tables & ramadas. Very quiet during the week. Paid camping isn't my usual style but all in all this was wonderful experience.
Here is so beautiful place !! I wish to live here few weeks.. but Night is noise and cold and windy. Depends season is so many flies and bugs. You need tool for flyes
Clean restrooms, convenient showers. Nice, calm camping with excitement to the beach. 20$ pro night. Near with a railway
Wish all campgrounds were so spacious and clean. The restrooms have running water , flushable toilets , soap , tiles , light and solar panels, you name it. There are shower, equally fancy but you need to gave registration. We were there first come first serve. The stuff was very kind and helpful. Best spots are 48, 49, 50 with the lake Salton Sea View. Campground is close to lake but far enough so you don't feel the smell . No secret here, that lake it's not clean but you're not here to swim . It's a great base if you wanna go and visit Bombay Beach about 10 min drive away. Bring ear plugs. Bring ear plugs. Bring ear plugs. Good ones. The train is loud and runs throughout all night. Overall, we had great time. Will definitely come back.
