Customer reviews present a stark contrast in experiences. During the off-season, particularly in February, the campground is described as exceptionally peaceful and quiet. One reviewer highlighted the silence, abundant wildlife sightings, and clean bathrooms. They noted that the water in the bathrooms cycles between cold and warm, which should be considered.

However, another reviewer reported a negative experience during a busier time, citing excessive noise from RVs blasting music and lights all night. They also mentioned strong winds and compacted ground that made it difficult to drive stakes, as well as the presence of stickers and constant traffic. This reviewer found the experience extremely unpleasant and not representative of enjoyable camping.

The North Area Campground at Conchas State Park was beautiful in February. The weather was warmer than normal (65-75 degrees during the day), but what I loved most about this park this time of the year was the silence. You could hear a pin drop. If anyone was planning on unaliving me, THIS would've been the place to do it. So peaceful. All kinds of wildlife to marvel at. Birds. Fish. Even saw a prairie dog right outside our camper. Bathrooms were clean. (The water cycles through cold & warm so keep that in mind.) A lot of places to walk & relax. Normally I get a little sillier with my reviews, but honestly loved the peace & solitude of this campground & plan to be back. (Keep in mind, its VERY busy in the summer months.)

This is the worst place I've ever camped. RVs blasting music at night and blaring lights all night. Also ridiculous amounts of wind. Wouldn't be so bad, but the ground is so compacted that you can't drive stakes in. Add to that tons of stickers and pretty constant traffic. If this is characteristic of camping in New Mexico, this state is awful. Might as well sleep in a Wal-Mart parking lot.
