Nice campground. We were there for a father daughter campout with 16 families for the end of year Halloween festivities. Had a great haunted house, son fun candy bingo( 1 large candy bar for each bingo card you want), a decent band on Saturday night along with some fun trick or treating for kids and adults.
This campground is for seasonals only. Way overpriced with awful campsites. Events are not communicated and the ones that they had, you needed 'special reservations' to even attend. I almost saw multiple golf cart accidents; they drive them like race cars there. Not safe for kids or pets. Oh, the the water there smells like rotten eggs. If you like to party, be unsafe and race golf carts, this place is probably for you. If you are there with loved ones, I'd suggest to stay away.
We have been camping here for the past 10 years, this year we decided to purchase the annual membership and keep it RV there all season. We are not renewing our contract, it is boring. There are not many activities, and I think less people are coming here so it looks dead. It is kind of dirty too. The price is just not worth it because it’s not a fun location. I thought it was much more fun when it was yogi bear.
My family has been coming to O’Connels for the past 15 years and has camped at primitive sites and the trailer sites. It is within the past two, since the selling to Thousand Trails that we have now had some complaints . In comparison to Yogi Bear, I find that there are less things to do that are family oriented. Less activities geared toward children which was a large part as to why we came. If they could have more Kid-Friendly activities that would help. The facilities and amenities have also become lackluster. The beach at the front has removed the inflatable play area which used to float and be so much to explore. The lake is seldom ever stocked with fish for families to enjoy fishing. Kayaking and Canoeing seem to have taken a back seat as well. The pool that is in the center of the area has a hot tub that does not have anyone to enforce the “no kids under 16” so much so you had some parents with their infants. The hot tubs in both pools were also green with algae and not as clean and taken care of as a public pool ought to be Arrival times and departure times are not posted for those incoming or departing. No overnight staff has lead to no enforcement of quiet hours starting at 11pm, we have people partying and thinking well into 1am and nobody does anything about it. The primitive bathrooms were hardly cleaned or power washed. In our 4-day stay they did not come to clean them once that we saw. And then finally the price point is not a good representation of the experience. If we pay around 100$ a night on a weekend, only to have to leave by 11am on Sunday, I feel that it is a waste of money, if we pay for a full days price then as customers we should be allowed to spend a full day on Sunday if we so choose and not have to pay a 30$ late checkout fee only to leave at 1pm vs 11am. While I’m not writing it off completely it definitely has changed and not entirely for the better. I hope that some things change for the next season otherwise we may be taking our business elsewhere.
Been coming here for 5+ years and honestly I feel like this place has become dull. Since it is no longer Jellystone Park, I feel like the place has become less fun-filled with less activities for kids and family to enjoy as a whole. As for cabins, the security codes now seem unsafe. I think it used to be a card which is much more safer. Think, anyone with the code can come in. Water tap smells bad, like eggs. Don't drink it, seems suspicious. Past experience, AC can drip water. Had to put a tray under it. No floatie slides in the beach, plain beach now that probably is dirty. The cabins provide you with cleaning supplies, coffee maker, some utensils, etc. No life guards or any one watching over the pool. Kids can go alone, unsafe. Supposedly quite time is at 11pm but people party at 1am since there's no longer any security or overnight staff to watch, I guess. + Late checkout fee? 11am. $30.. I think they should include more community activities, place seems like a ghostown. Their convenience store, staff, and nature trail is good though!
