Many sites have uneven and poorly angled parking, be careful if u have a trailer when choosing a site! Showers don't have hot water, even though you pay for the shower. Maybe the water is not "cold" but its not warm either. Oregon state parks offer free showers with HOT water ... come on CA! I liked the large campsites (large when compared to SoCal campsites) but the Rangers were a bit lax, allowing more than 8 people per site. Even with empty campsites over 4th of July weekend, it began to feel a bit crowded. We met many nice people in the campground, but louder daytime tuba and Mariachi music from literally all around us was a bit overwhelming. Oak Flat has excellent access to the river, an easy walk with our gear. The other side of the river is predominantly smaller Redwoods (larger near the visitor center), however Oak Flats Campground is predominantly Oak (hence the name). Almost all the sites were mostly shaded to well shaded, with sun on nearly all sites at some point during the summer day.
