Casual, laid-back camp with showers and toilets, a few tables; all dirt roads, no pavement, and uneven in spots. The sites are scattered somewhat randomly about, which gives a great "feel" to the place. No sardine-stacking here. Many of the sites are on or very near shoreline cliffs, with wonderful views of the sea and rocky terrain. It's also easy to hike down to the water line, and there's even a rough launch ramp for (very) small boats, SUP's and kayaks and such. There's every type of visitor, from big diesel pushers to hikers, cyclists, motorcyclists, and every variation of traveler/camper. All we met were courteous, happy and friendly. In addition, just across the highway are a store, a restaurant, and a motel. Really a great spot... not 5-star, it's too "rough", but that's the way I like it.
I did NOT camp here, I am writing a review because I see so many complaints of there not being any hiking spots nearly and it is simply not true. We stayed at the hotel down the way and paid to walk through this site. We accidentally stumbled upon an opening in the fence on the far east of the camp. The signs posted there say the trails are open sunrise to sunset. This is RIGHT INSIDE the campground... These trails appear to go for miles across the cliffs of the Pacific and it is so dang beautiful!!! I highly recommend anyone in the area, especially campers, check it out. $5 per person to walk in of you're not a camper. You cannot beat these views-
We were led to this campground by a guy from Honey Bucket after our bad experience at Timber Cove Boat Landing. This is a phenomenal place to camp and the folks that run the store and BBQ oyster hut are absolutely amazing, friendly, caring people! The showers were clean, the facility was clean and sprawling, the boat landing and beach were incredible, and the store carried just about anything you needed! We will be back and thanks to the guy from Honey Bucket for recommending it and doing such a great job with the port o John's! We had an amazing vacation!
The view is absolutely stunning!! Went here for the view, but they do have a little convenience store, trash, water (to fill water bottles with), $6 for a 12 minute shower, and port-a-potties. What more could you ask for? We loved our time here. Will definitely be back at some point!!
Always so very beautiful and healing. Today my son & I went there for the memorial of a long time friend. The love was strong and the sky was a cloudless blue with seagulls, pelicans, and hawks flying above us throughout the day. The was sun shining like a warm hug. A true gift.
