Absolutely wonderful. I've stayed here for 2 trips so far and couldn't be happier with the place. Prefer the Hummingbird Suite for the extra space and king size bed, but have checked out the smaller cabins as well and they are also very nice. The heat works great for chilly nights. The kitchen is spacious and great for cooking fresh seafood from the nearby ports. The bed is very comfortable, as well as the sofa. I found the cabin to be overall very comforting, traditonal, feels like home. The screen porch is a pleasure to have your morning coffee in and take in the brackish air, I havent been in the summer but I can imagine a nice dinner out there would be lovely.. The price point is excellent, I have stayed in many places within an hour radius and this is my #1 spot for the reasons above and more. The bay in the morning is so beautiful, its just a lovely place to relax. The owner Cathy is very kind and tries to meet the guests when she can. Checking in is a breeze and the location is convenient for getting to attractions or just going to the grocery store. It has always been nice and clean as well which is very important for me. I love to cook, so having the full kitchen is good and saves money over eating out, like you'd have to at a regular accommodation. I look foward to the next stay!
Very nice first time stay at Ocean Spray Cottages, rustic, clean and comfy, exactly what I was looking for. Friendly owners, cottage was thoughtfully appointed, complete with glasses, plates, even coffee for the coffee machine! Beds were comfortable, and things were kept in very shipshape order and care. Location is very convenient, right off US Route 1, just down the street from the villages of Harrison and Columbia. Lots of Maine history, and charming coastal towns to explore. The Downeast Maine coast is a very special area, rugged coastline, and much history. Ocean Spray Cottages is a great base of operations to start with!
We decided last minute to do a 2-night trip to Maine, and were fortunate to have found this little gem of a place! Far from the touristy areas, wonderful view with plenty of wildlife, lovely trails nearby. We are a family of four with two 4yr old kids and we stayed in the Chickadee cabin. True, the cabin is a bit small and the bathroom is tiny! but the beds were comfortable, the place was clean and had all the necessities and besides, we did not go to Maine to stay indoors! The view from inside the cabin is on the water, facing west, and we enjoyed the stunning sunset as we relaxed around the fire.
We had a wonderful relaxing weekend at Ocean Spray Cottages. The view of the bay at night and in the early morning is amazing. It was a quiet get away to sit back and read a good book. The cottage is simple with lots of interesting facts about the area. The best part is Buddy the camp dog. He is very friendly and greets you each time you leave. We can’t wait to come back.
Positives: Amazing setting and water views Saw bald eagles and great blue herons Peaceful, quiet Responsive and very nice owners Clean Plenty of towels Pet friendly Negatives, suggestions: Felt like a very old, dated summer camp or place for hunters. Very uncomfortable beds. Backaches, tossing and turning. Little tiny elfin bathroom so small it was hard to take a shower or do other hygiene. Very cramped space! Toilet was crowded between the shower and the wall, so narrow like a trailer, making it hard to use the bathroom. Not set up for relaxing in the main room. TV not working (ok with us but might be a problem for others!). Internet spotty. We used our phones for internet which worked ok. We are used to rustic but these problems made it pretty uncomfortable to stay here. Especially at these rates I would expect better accomodations, not luxury but at least more basics. If they were to update and improve this place would be wonderful. As it is we would rather go camping.
