Old Baldy Park Introduce
Old Baldy Park is a beloved destination for hiking enthusiasts and nature lovers seeking stunning views in the heart of Wimberley, Texas. Known for its iconic uphill trail, the park offers a unique opportunity to experience nature's beauty through an invigorating hike. Despite the challenging 260 steps leading to the summit, visitors are rewarded with panoramic vistas that make the effort worthwhile.
Located at 31 La Toya Trail, Old Baldy Park is easily accessible daily from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM, making it a convenient spot for day trips. The park's environment is characterized by rolling hills and serene trails, offering a peaceful retreat from the hustle of city life. It's a place where nature enthusiasts can immerse themselves in the beauty of the Texas landscape while enjoying a sense of seclusion despite its proximity to civilization.
While visiting Old Baldy Park doesn't offer camping or RV facilities, it is a day-use area with ample parking for cars and trailers. The main attraction is the hike up the well-defined trail, which winds through natural scenery. Once at the summit, hikers are treated to breathtaking views stretching across the surrounding hills. However, visitors should note that the platform at the top is small and lacks benches or restrooms, so it's advisable to bring water and snacks for the journey.
Old Baldy Park caters to a range of visitors, from families looking for an adventurous day out to solo hikers seeking personal challenge. The trail is challenging but manageable for those in decent physical condition. However, safety considerations are essential: while handrails are provided on the ascent, there are none at the summit, making it potentially risky for young children or those less steady on their feet.
Customer feedback highlights both the park's attractions and areas for improvement. Many appreciate the accessibility of the trail and the rewarding views, describing the hike as "worth it" and "a great adventure." However, some visitors have noted the lack of seating and restrooms, which can make spending time at the summit less enjoyable. Additionally, while the trees offer shade, they slightly obstruct the view from the platform.
For those planning a visit, Old Baldy Park encourages bringing cameras to capture the scenic beauty and suggests timing your hike during sunrise or sunset for the most dramatic views. The park is also a fantastic spot for birdwatching, offering visitors a chance to observe local wildlife in their natural habitat.

Customer Reviews
A great uphill set of stairs but it was worth it for a nice view. There are no benches or seats fyi. But it's not too hard if you are able to climb some stairs.
We were pleasantly surprised to find this little adventure in the area. The hike is really accessible. If you pace yourself, if you’re young, you can run through those stairs up. We estimate about 260 steps up to climb about 100 feet, and at the very top, you are about 1150 feet above sea level. Anyway, I don’t have all the scientific data on it. I just can tell you that we enjoyed the visit. It has a wonderful view from the summit, however, the trees that are in the immediate platform are somewhat obstructive. I would be very nervous to bring active children on this climb. Although there are safety handrails all the climb up, there aren’t any around the summit and the platform is small. Unfortunately, there aren’t any restrooms or places to sit and enjoy the view because, as I mentioned before, the platform is small
Always an excellent hike & the best spot to take guests to experience Wimberley Valley Views!
Love the Climb! Since childhood...Still A favorite spot to just enjoy nature and these Amazing hill country views. The painted rocks are beautiful ❤️ too
Premises is city maintained, with a well-built stairway up to the top of old Baldy. Went for the sunrise, the area was quiet when I arrived, though a couple of people showed up closer to sunrise. View at top for sunrise was 10/10 (see attached pictures). Would recommend for a morning mini hike with a good view if in the area. Please be respectful of the area, take your trash out, and watch out on the rocks closer to the edge. This park is in a residential area, so please don't trash the area, or be too rowdy.
Fairly steep (but short) hike up rock steps to a beautiful view. Well worth the hike.
