Old River Campground Introduce
Old River Campground: Your Private, Peaceful Hideaway Near Rhinehart, Central Louisiana
For Louisiana travelers seeking a small, quiet, and highly personalized RV camping experience in the central part of the state, Old River Campground in Rhinehart is a true hidden gem. This isn't a massive resort or a busy state park; it is a privately-owned, limited-space retreat built around providing a peaceful "home away from home" atmosphere. Customers consistently rave about the "super sweet" owners, whose dedication to personalized service is the foundation of the campground's appeal. The feeling of being welcomed and cared for is a hallmark of the deep Louisiana hospitality found here.
Old River Campground is the ideal destination for those who prioritize tranquility and convenience over endless amenities and crowds. Since the park is limited on space, you can expect a more intimate and quiet stay, allowing you to genuinely sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery. While reviews mention the unfortunate luck of rain sometimes preventing full enjoyment of the outdoors, the beautiful natural setting around the fishing pond and river area confirms that this is a peaceful, nature-focused stop. Whether you are passing through or looking for a long-term, quiet base camp in Central Louisiana, Old River Campground is a place where you are guaranteed to feel loved and where the focus is entirely on your comfort.
Location and Accessibility
Old River Campground is conveniently situated in the small community of Rhinehart, Louisiana, at 670 Old River Loop, Rhinehart, LA 71363, USA. Its location places it strategically off US Highway 84, making it easily accessible for travelers across Central Louisiana and those entering the state.
Accessibility is generally excellent, though a friendly warning is offered by past guests:
- Navigation Tip: Be aware that GPS services like Google Maps may have the location slightly off. Campers advise looking for the Old River Loop road about a mile before the map might indicate the turn if approaching from the direction of US 84. The road is often marked by the loop.
- Major Road Access: The campground is located just a short distance off US 84, a major artery, and is only about 4 miles north of its junction with Louisiana Highway 28, making it simple to find and access with a large RV.
- Regional Proximity: The site is about an hour's drive from Alexandria and the Kisatchie National Forest, and only about 30 minutes from the Ouachita River and nearby communities like Jonesville and Columbia, making it a great base for regional exploration, especially for fishing and forest activities.
- The River: The proximity to the "Old River" in the name suggests access to an oxbow lake or backwater area near the Ouachita River system, providing that classic, tranquil Louisiana river setting.
Campers are strongly advised to call the owners prior to arrival for the best directions and to confirm their reservation, leveraging the owners' "super sweet" helpfulness to ensure a smooth check-in.
Services Offered
Old River Campground focuses on delivering the essential services necessary for a comfortable, self-contained RV stay, prioritizing the quality of the hookups and the peace of the environment.
- Full RV Hookups: All sites are designed to be full hookups, providing water, sewer, and electricity (20, 30, and 50-amp) to ensure maximum comfort for any modern RV or trailer.
- Personalized Service: The owners are reportedly "super sweet" and highly accommodating, providing excellent, personalized customer service that sets the small park apart from larger operations.
- Quiet and Limited Space: With limited space, the park inherently offers a level of privacy and quiet that is often lost in high-density parks, appealing to those seeking true rest.
- Fishing Pond Access: The campground features a fishing pond right on-site, offering guests the easy service of casting a line without having to leave the property (weather permitting).
- River/Water Access: The location and name suggest direct or very close access to the Old River Loop area, allowing guests to "watch the river" and potentially launch small craft for nearby fishing or paddling.
- Site Amenities: Basic amenities are expected to include level parking for RVs, though the exact nature (gravel or concrete) is not specified.
The key "service" here is the atmosphere itself—clean, well-maintained, and peaceful, thanks to the engaged and caring management.
Features / Highlights
Old River Campground’s highlights are centered on its intimate size and tranquil, natural setting, making it a unique destination for Louisiana campers.
- Owner Hospitality: The exceptional sweetness and helpfulness of the owners is the most significant feature, ensuring a pleasant and personalized stay for all guests.
- Peace and Quiet: The limited number of spaces guarantees a nice and quiet environment, a perfect antidote to city noise and the often-crowded conditions of public parks.
- On-Site Fishing: The presence of a fishing pond offers immediate, low-effort recreation for all ages, great for a relaxing afternoon or teaching a child to fish.
- Scenic Water Views: The opportunity to "sit back and watch the river" (the nearby Old River system) provides a beautiful, restful view typical of Central Louisiana's riverine landscape.
- Ideal Base Camp: The location near US 84 and the Ouachita River makes it an excellent, quiet base for hunters, anglers, or travelers exploring the history and nature of LaSalle and Catahoula Parishes.
- Non-Commercial Vibe: It maintains a welcoming, less structured feel than large corporate campgrounds, appealing to those who prefer a more "Loved it" experience.

Customer Reviews
Google has this marked wrong, look for the old river loop about a mile before it has you turning off on the right if you are coming from 84. You will want to call the owners they are super sweet. This is a nice place to stay unfortunately it rained on us the time we were there, so we didn’t get to enjoy the fishing pond or just sit back and witch the river. Stop and see it, it is limited on space so not many people. Nice and quite.
