Welcome to Oliver Lee Memorial State Park, located at 409 Dog Canyon Rd, Alamogordo, NM 88310. As a part of the 'Campgrounds & RV Parks' category, this state park offers a unique desert camping and hiking experience with stunning views and well-maintained facilities.

Oliver Lee Memorial State Park is praised for its spacious campsites that provide privacy, even in the desert environment. Sites like 32 and 38 offer beautiful views of the Sacramento Mountains on one side and White Sands National Park on the other, creating a picturesque setting for campers.

The park offers hiking trails, with the Dog Canyon trail being a highlight. This trail is described as hard but beautiful, featuring the thrilling "eyebrow" section. The campground hosts are friendly and helpful, and they are noted for their diligence in protecting the facilities from non-campers. The park's toilets are clean, and the overall campground is described as immaculate.

While some sites lack electrical hookups, the park's scenic beauty, well-maintained facilities, and hiking opportunities make it a worthwhile destination for campers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Oliver Lee Memorial State Park offers scenic desert camping with privacy, beautiful views of mountains and White Sands, and challenging hikes in Dog Canyon. Clean facilities and friendly hosts make it a great stopover.

For inquiries or reservations, you can contact Oliver Lee Memorial State Park at (505) 660-7381 or +1 505-660-7381. When visiting, be prepared for rocky hiking trails and limited signage in Dog Canyon. Consider booking a site with no electric if you prefer unobstructed views.

Very nice campground, with large sites offering privacy even in the desert. We first had site 32 and later 38. Beautiful views of the Sacramento Mountains one end and White Sands National Park on the other. Hard but beautiful trail into dog canyon, especially the thrilling “eyebrow.” Unfortunately, signage stops after mile 4 or so. And it’s probably not a good idea to take your dogs into Dog Canyon. The path is strewn with fist-sized rocks that are tough on paws.

Lovely stopover for 1 night - site #17 (no electric) had nice unobstructed views across the plains. Hike up Dog Canyon looked great (leave early when cool) but we didn’t have time. Pleasant campground host (appreciate they are protective of facilities from noncampers - thank you), clean toilets and overall campground immaculate.

Breathe taking, nice showers and bathrooms. Park host and staff were all very nice. Stayed at #4 and #9 sites. Good breeze, both have electric and water and are approved for tent camping. Also very reasonable pricing for a state part.

We loved this place. A little ways out, but you are parked up against the cliffs and you get a spectacular view when you wake up on the morning. Sites are gravel and mostly level. Staff was friendly and helpful.

We were RV camping at Oliver Lee for two nights while visiting White Sands NP. We only had reservation for one night and the second we scored due to a cancellation. We really liked the setting of the campground - great views and sunset, amazing canyons on the backdrop. Lots of gorgeous vegetation and birds. Visitor center is fun! The volunteers are really friendly and informative. Campground keeper was friendly too. Campground has different types of sites scattered around: with and without shed, with or without hook ups. Dump station had limited working hours. Hot showers were great! We hiked to the springs (although almost dried out) and enjoyed our morning hike.longer canyon hike available. Plus an overflow for 5$ a night! For us, East coasters, this place was magical! Thank you to the friendly staff and beautiful nature!
