Osage Plains Campground: Full Hookup Comfort at Cross Timbers State Park, Kansas

🏞️ Introduction / Overview: The Premier Camping Experience at Osage Plains

For Kansas residents seeking the perfect balance between high-end camping amenities and the rugged beauty of the state’s natural landscape, the Osage Plains Campground at Cross Timbers State Park stands out as a prime destination. Located on the northern shores of the stunning Toronto Reservoir, the Osage Plains loop provides a welcoming, well-maintained experience, favored by both long-term RVers and families looking for a comfortable, feature-rich base camp for their outdoor adventures.

The Osage Plains area is a jewel within the park's larger Toronto Point section. It is highly regarded for its large, spacious sites and the availability of premium utilities. As one satisfied camper notes, "We love it here. We stay at the Osage loop. Well-maintained. Nice picnic table, fire pit and grill." This area successfully blends the rustic charm of a state park setting—surrounded by the unique topography of the Cross Timbers region—with the modern conveniences necessary for an enjoyable stay. Unlike the more primitive areas of the park, Osage Plains offers a significant number of full-service sites, addressing the needs of those with larger RVs or those who require full utility access for extended comfort.

Managed by the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWP), the campground is subject to State Park regulations, ensuring a clean, safe, and family-friendly environment. It is an ideal spot to launch a boat, hike the famous Chautauqua Hills Trail, or simply watch the sun set over Toronto Lake. For Kansans planning their next staycation, Osage Plains represents the best of organized, utility-supported camping in a truly picturesque setting.

Accessibility within the campground is excellent, designed specifically to accommodate modern RVs and trailers. The sites in the Osage Plains loop are known to be spacious and feature gravel pads or level parking areas, facilitating easy maneuvering and setup, even for larger units up to 86 feet in length. The reservable nature of the sites is a massive advantage for planning, removing the uncertainty of first-come, first-served camping for popular holiday weekends. Choosing the Osage Plains Campground means choosing a guaranteed, spacious, pet-friendly, and fully-equipped home base that serves as the perfect launchpad for experiencing the diverse outdoor offerings of the Cross Timbers State Park region of Kansas.

Large, spacious sites. Beautiful campground but with limited full service sites though many water and electric sites. Must purchase state park pass in addition to campsite fee. Pet friendly, nice people.

The sites are well spaced and shaded, which was nice . However, we arrived on a Thur. to find our site full of dead limbs and branches that we had to clear before we could pull in. Also, just about all of the grills and fire pits were overflowing with ash or full of trash, and we had to clean ours before we could cook or start a fire. We stayed 5 days and the camp hosts three dogs ran around off leash every day, pooping in occupied sites and antagonizing campers dogs that were leashed. And one camper kept emptying their grey tank at their site. It smelled horrible but the rule to dump only at the dump station was not being enforced.

Great campground and experience. Only bad thing was the lake rose 20 feet since got here because of storms the before. Plenty of hiking trails and things for the kids to do.
