Otter Creek Coin Operated Showers Introduce

Welcome to Otter Creek Coin Operated Showers, located at 1-7 Champlain Dr, Mt Desert, ME 04660. As a service within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, we provide a convenient shower facility for campers and travelers in the area.

Otter Creek Coin Operated Showers offers a practical solution for those needing access to hot showers, particularly near the Blackwood's campground. While it is a valuable amenity, it's important to understand the features and user experiences.

Here are some key points based on customer feedback:

  • Coin-Operated System: The showers operate on a coin system, costing $1 per minute. Each quarter provides 15 seconds of shower time.
  • Cleanliness: The facility is generally clean, but cleanliness can vary depending on user behavior. Some users have noted issues with hair shedding and lack of cleanup from others.
  • No Onsite Attendant: There is no attendant present, so users are responsible for maintaining cleanliness and reporting any issues.
  • Time-Based System: The system encourages quick showers to conserve water, but it can be perceived as pricey.
  • Audible Time Alerts: The system beeps to indicate remaining time, but the sound can be confusing in busy periods due to multiple showers operating simultaneously. There is no visual timer.
  • Power Outlet: A power outlet is available for hair dryers.
  • Peak Times: The facility can get very busy during evening hours and holiday weekends.

While the coin-operated system can be expensive, it provides a necessary service in an area with limited shower options. Users should be prepared for potential cleanliness issues and the time-based system.

Otter Creek Coin Operated Showers offers a functional shower facility for those exploring Mt. Desert and the surrounding areas. Please plan accordingly and be mindful of the facility's guidelines and potential peak times.

Clean facility except when people wash their hair and they shed a lot or don't clean after themselves. No attendant onsite. How fast can you shower? It's $1/min. It is expensive but it's the only choice around here. There's a power outlet for hair dryer. It can be very busy in the evening on holiday weekends.

Thankful to have a hot shower near the Blackwood's campground. However, this experience is average at best. Cost is $1 per minute as each quarter is worth 15 seconds. It motivates you to get in and get out, which is good for conservation of water. However it is a bit pricey IMO The real negative is that the system beeps at you to let you know time is running low and to add more money. However, with half a dozen or more showers in close proximity, it's impossible to know if it's your shower or your neighbors about to run out. There is no visual timer, just beeps that all blend together.

Showers were clean and well maintained with hot water and very good water pressure. There were detailed instructions on how to operate them. It is $1.75 (7 quarters) to start for 3 minutes. ATM and coin changers are on site. There are restrooms as well in the shower building.

Easy to use. Bring shower shoes and tons of quarters. The machine will beep when you have a minute left so you're aware when the water will stop. The shower and personal changing area are small, big enough for one person only.

Wouldn’t recommend. My wife’s shower never got even close to warm. Icy cold showers are not the way to start your day. Wouldn’t recommend the firewood either. Ours is very green and reluctant to burn, even with a Duraflame log underneath. Not sure about the ice, perhaps it’s worth the money.

Skip the showers. Greedy owners making money off of people needing showers. $1 per minute is INSANE, and that’s after the $1.75 it takes to start it. And you have to wait so many minutes for it to get warm (maybe only because I showered at 8 AM…but that doesn’t seem early). I know people need to run a business and make money, and I understand “things are expensive”…but they’ve been family-owned and run for 60 years. They’re not hurting. Probably own one (or more) of the huge houses on the water. They’re taking full advantage of people. In 2019 and 2021, it was $1 for 3 minutes, which I thought was ridiculous. This is just absolute GREED. May the Universe/God repay you for your ways. ALSO—you can only put one quarter in at a time, so you waste time (quarters) while the shower is running.

In May of 2025 we found this place to have very hot water, but it's a bit off season so maybe fewer people using it helped. There are machines to change $1/5/10/20 bills into coins. Showers aren't the Four Seasons but clean enough. Felt great taking a hot shower after a day of hiking!

In my opinion $1 a minute is a bit much. $2.50 should at least get you 5 minutes but worse is the water was cold the entire time and the facilities were not clean. For me, the water turned on immediately as soon as I put money in not giving me time to adjust.
