Our guests have consistently praised their experiences at Wilderness Cove Campground. One visitor shared, "My stepson and I stayed in one of the river cottages and had the absolute best time. On-site management were awesome, very friendly, very knowledgeable and informative of the area. We did the 6-mile float with our own kayaks, which of course, we were shuttled upstream by campground staff. Such a great trip. Cottage was clean, a/c worked great, bathhouse and showers very nice. Made some awesome memories and will definitely return. Highly recommend." Another guest added, "I have been coming here for years to go tubing but this year came for camping too. We stayed at one of the tent sites and it was perfect. Very clean, nice set up, showers (cold water only which was a little bit of a bummer) and bathrooms. We enjoyed our stay. The staff is always so friendly and helpful. We would recommend for both tubing and camping!"

Review for tent camping area. Expectations are important, I did plenty of research before picking Wilderness Cove as our campground for 2 days and 2 nights. Based on my informed expectations below I’m basing my review. First, the tent portion of the camp is primitive. What does that mean to you? To me, it means no facilities, lights, showers, potable water or bathrooms. In this case, this place exceeds my expectations. They have 2 toilets, in what can best be described as an upgraded port-a-potty. They have showers, although the water is not hot/warm. They have a spigot that puts out potable water. They also have trash cans. If you go in knowing it’s primitive you’ll be pleasantly surprised. The tent portion of this campground lies somewhere between primitive and glamping - leaning toward primitive. Also, do your research on your campsite- not all are created equal. Tent site 7 was the last one left, for good reason, it’s on the smaller side and it’s in the middle of all the others. You park your car a very short walk away (30 meters), but you won’t have it 5 feet from your tent like in some of the sites. (You can pull it up for loading and unloading.) Susan at the office is nice and helpful. If I didn’t know the shower was cold or thought my car would be right next to me I might be leaving a different review. Also, make sure you put the right amount of guests in your party they will check at check in.
My wife and I had a camping trip planned for this October. However, Helene obviously changed those plans. The folks at the campground reached out before I even did to work out a credit or refund. This was amazing to me considering the chaos they were dealing with. I look forward to hopefully planning another trip in the future once the area has recovered.
I'm torn between 3 stars and 4, which could have been well remedied with more information on their website so that we knew better what to expect. The sites were much smaller than we thought, though some of the primitive tent sites were plenty big. The middle section of tent sites were barely big enough for our 3-person backpacking tent, and if we had any bigger, then we would've had to stay in the mulch area where the picnic table was. More photos of the primitive sites on the website would've given us a better idea of which site to choose. The map also only showed toilets in the primitive area, so we were ready to have to go back and forth to the bathhouse for showers. What we weren't expecting was to be told we weren't allowed to use the bathhouse (the only place with hot water) since we were tent camping, and that there would be outdoor showers, cold water only, with a thin, see-through shower curtain at the primitive sites. Not really conducive to bathing a toddler, but we would've appreciated knowing about the showers beforehand. We appreciated that when we bought firewood, they delivered it to our site, but we didn't appreciate the yelling between employees and rude behavior when we went to buy ice. The instructions that we received at check-in mentioned the importance of putting trash in the provided receptacles and being aware of bears in the area, but the two tiny trash cans were full from the time we got there on Saturday until we left Monday morning. And last, the security gate at the primitive sites would've been great except the solar power quick closing the gate on our second night, leaving the gate open for anyone to come in.
