Most likely the best campground I have been too. The host is awesome! You can buy wood here at a price that is better than in town. Wild chipmunks run free and the grounds are very clean. Bathrooms are spotless and the smell is low, due to the cleaning the host does. Did I forget to mention, the host is also in law enforcement, so the noise level and safety is top notch. Plus the view is great!
Very, very pleasant and quiet campground is just what I needed this August of 2020. After months of COVID-19 quarantine indoors, a buddy and I broke out of the city into these mountains. No masks to be seen anywhere in the campground but since the camp site's are so far apart and that there are only sixteen total here, there was no need for them. Social Distancing was a thing here but only because everyone was already separated by dozens of yards to begin with. Our Camp Host, a fine young man named Jerry, was nothing but kind, informative and helpful. They sell quality firewood here on the campgrounds for a little less than market value in this area. You can, and my buddy and I did, go around to the other campgrounds on Hwy 67 south of here and collect up fallen branches and other forest floor tinder in a "forest fire mitigation effort". This saved me quite a few dollars. It didn't look like any of the places we collected this firewood from had been previously cleaned this season or maybe this year even. It was plentiful. The campground was generally pitch black at all campsites by 10:30pm every night but Saturdays. Our site was lit with both fire and lanterns till Midnight ballpark. We did observe the quiet time after 10pm, not because it's a rule but just being good camping neighbors. There is clean, potable water from a number of spigots located throughout. The bathroom I used, at the top by sites #6 and #7, was nothing if not immaculate and although it's a pit type toilet you couldn't tell it hardly when in the bathroom. The Painted Rocks are something to marvel at there's a handful around this campground and they're definitely worth the short walk to see them.
Great spot to take the family. Decently priced bathoms really clean. And the noises down goodspot.,
A splendid little campground that has really beautiful rock formations around it and has the native Colorado Chipmunk located throughout the park. The camping/RV sites are well spread apart, so that you can't hear the campers unless someone is talking very, very loud. All the other campers were friendly, respectful of others and there were zero problems of any kind. The campgrounds host was friendly and accommodating. Very nice gentlemen. I stayed Monday-Sunday-Friday, the second and third weeks of August. Twelve days total. The campfires died down around 9:30pm and almost all campsites were darkened and quiet by 10-10:30pm, with mine being the exception. I would stay up later just because I enjoy night time in the woods. Oh, I can't forget the chipmunk here. I had one little guy who would bound off my backpack next to me and right into my lap every morning while I was having coffee and a Danish. I'd give him a tiny bit of Danish. Sometimes he'd eat it there or take off to somewhere else. Some are obviously tame. All in all, it's worth the $23 per night cost for tent camping. Edit: There are three or four potable, clean water spigots located throughout the campgrounds next to the roads. I'll upload a photo or two of them as there has been some question in these reviews as to whether they exist. They might not have been there when the review was created too. No showers on-site though. Closest public showers are at Mueller State Park approximately 15 miles away, south of Divide, CO. Also, I was able to get 2-3 bars of Sprint LTE service from a tower 14 miles away while here.
Highly recommended campground! The host Gerald was so nice to my family and I! No water on site but Gerald had complimentary gallons of water for visitors, clean ballrooms on site, and dumpsters available. Manitou Lake is right up the way from the campground, couldn't ask for a better experience. Although a cry baby neighbor tried complaining about us shooting a BB gun 🇺🇸
