We had a nice stay at the campground! The toilets and showers are adequate for such a remote location and the restaurant next door has a great selection of local and foreign beers and the burger was good. Be prepared for heat during the night as the valley never really cools down. Please watch your step during the night and close the toilet doors! We encountered a rattlesnake next to the sanitation facilities during a nightly toilet trip. We made sure to stay on the path and make some noise, so the snake rattled at us and we managed to avoid it. Be safe!
The place is closest to the Death Valley entrance from the West Side. A simple RV park with no bells and whistles. At night it is dark and it helps with star gazing.
I loved this place. The views are astonishing, Reservations are allowed year-round, it wasn't overcrowded, it wasn't a parking lot disguised as an RV campground, and the people were very friendly and helpful. This won't be for everyone, it's very rustic, but not unclean. It is built adjacent to a place where a mining operation (?) once existed and there are some rusting remnants behind the campground that my family was fascinated by. (Don't let the picture of the car scare you, it's not obvious from the campground) There's a general store and restaurant there with everything you need. The guy at the counter was very helpful with advice for our trip in Death Valley. The food was great and the waiter was attentive and funny as hell.
This is the only place with openings for 50 to 100 miles in either direction. The staff at the store where you check in were EXELLENT and very helpful, specifically Huk and Alissa. We were sent to a site that had someone in it already twice. Finally, we took a site we liked and went back to report to them, and they were ok with that. The sites were level -we had a dry site- with a great fire ring, a (dirty) picnic table, nice shrubs, etc. The bathroom worked. Two stalls and two showers-old, worn, cracked, but mostly clean. However, by second day, one sink and one toilet were clogged, and about to overflow. Trash cans in bathroom were full and overflowing on day one. We could still use everything, but....It was quiet at night. It got the job done. But know what you are getting into. Maybe they are short handed?
Let's begin with what a GREAT location! The views are absolutely amazing right from the camp / park. We recently enjoyed this facility and the great hospitality with a group of a dozen adventure bike riders. Excellent base camp for accessing some nice off-road motorcycle trails. See Panamint Springs on Rever for our routes. Four days of riding with two evenings of great meals at the Panamint Grill. The food and service were very good. Their beer selection is amazing consider how far away Death Valley is from the nearest distributor. Wine, well I didn't fare so well as the vintages were all unknown to me. We used everything from the rooms (historic rooms), cabins, canvas tents, and RV hookups. No issues with any of them. Ok, not a 4-star room but we were out the door early in the morning and came back a wee bit dirty and dusty. So appropriate for our activities. Would like to see more picnic tables and fire pits. We really could have used a large table at the Cottage cabin as this was our primary staging area. Yes, we absolutely would come back and stay here again!
