This was a nice bare bones campground this time of year. Nice, large sites near the river and near a Dollar General and other stores for necessities. Within a short drive to Elephant Rocks State Park and Johnson Shut-ins. Both amazing and unique parks.
Very clean campground, was quiet past 10pm friendly staff. River is crystal clear and relatively shallow also flow is about 2 mph fairly swift without the need to paddle except to steer. Useful info since the float is 6 miles and first pick up is at 3pm. Take your time or delay start time or you will be waiting for quite some time for pick up. Pay attention to shower/bath locations. Depending on where your campsite is can be quite a walk. They were all clean, stocked and well taken care of.
Decided to detour off the TransAmerican Route 76 and ride 3 miles to this campsite. Stocked up at the Dollar General before entering campground. Did primitive camping which comes to find out it’s a one mile walk to the site by the river. Gravel is too lose to ride my bike. Site was okay. Too far to the showers. Bathrooms is a long walk. Decent toilets and showers, not the best. Bugs. Customer service was nice and helpful. Camp site was unseen from the RVs and I was the only one there in the evening.
The campground & all facilities were very clean. The location to the Black River is perfect. If you are going to relax and unplug from phones, people, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. this is perfect! There’s not a lot else to do except for the river and parks…exactly what we needed.
Worst float trip Ive ever been on. The crazy owners threatened to pull a gun on us for being late after the bus driver picked us up drunk & cussing at us. My kids were terrified & crying.
