Parkside Campground is strategically situated at FS Rd 2421A, Red Lodge, MT 59068, USA. This location is particularly significant as it places the campground right at the Montana end of the legendary Beartooth Pass. For those familiar with the area, you'll appreciate the convenience of being so close to this world-renowned scenic byway, offering unparalleled opportunities for exploration and breathtaking views. Its position at the base of the pass means easy access for those coming from Red Lodge and surrounding communities, making it a fantastic last stop before ascending the pass or a welcoming first stop upon descending. The accessibility is straightforward, typically involving well-maintained forest service roads that are suitable for most vehicles, ensuring a smooth arrival for campers. While the beauty of Montana's wilderness often implies remote locations, Parkside Campground strikes a perfect balance, feeling secluded enough for a true escape while remaining relatively easy to reach from established routes.
Parkside Campground, being a forest service campground, is designed to provide essential services that enhance the camping experience while maintaining a connection to nature. While not a full-service resort, the amenities provided are carefully chosen to ensure comfort and convenience. Based on customer feedback, the following services are consistently highlighted:
- Immaculate Pit Toilets: Campers consistently praise the cleanliness and upkeep of the pit toilets. This attention to hygiene, especially with consideration for health protocols, significantly contributes to a more pleasant stay.
- Spacious and Level Campsites: The campground features well-maintained, level spots that are generously spaced. This design ensures that campers are not "right on top of each other," providing a sense of privacy and personal space, which is highly valued in a natural setting.
- Bear Lockers: For those traveling with food and other scented items, the provision of bear lockers is a crucial safety feature. This allows campers to store their belongings securely, reducing the risk of attracting wildlife and promoting a safer environment for everyone.
Beyond the fundamental services, Parkside Campground offers a range of features and highlights that make it particularly appealing to local Montanans looking for an authentic and enjoyable outdoor experience. These attributes contribute to the campground's reputation as a favored destination:
- Creekside Location: A significant highlight mentioned by visitors is the campground's beautiful creekside setting. The calming sounds of the nearby creek and the scenic views it provides create a serene atmosphere, perfect for relaxation and connection with nature. This feature is especially popular for those who enjoy fishing, listening to flowing water, or simply appreciate the aesthetic beauty of a riverside campsite.
- Gateway to Beartooth Pass: As previously noted, its location at the base of Beartooth Pass is a major draw. This offers unparalleled access to one of America's most spectacular drives, with endless opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and scenic photography along the pass itself. For locals, this means less travel time to reach an iconic natural wonder.
- Secluded Yet Accessible: Despite its proximity to a major road and popular tourist route, Parkside Campground manages to maintain a sense of peaceful seclusion. The layout with spaced-out sites contributes to this, allowing campers to feel truly immersed in the forest environment without being overwhelmed by crowds.
- Well-Maintained Facilities by Hosts: The presence of dedicated campground hosts who actively maintain the facilities, especially the restrooms, is a highly appreciated feature. Their commitment to cleanliness and adherence to protocols, such as COVID-19 guidelines mentioned in reviews, ensures a comfortable and safe environment for all visitors.
- Motorcycle-Friendly: Reviews specifically highlight the campground's suitability for motorcycle travelers. This indicates ease of access and perhaps level parking areas, which are beneficial for all types of vehicles but particularly appreciated by those on two wheels.

Customer Reviews
Very nice forest service campground. Level spots spaced out so you’re not right on top of each other. Right at the Montana end of Beartooth Pass.
We rolled in on our motorcycles late on a July day and found the last open spot. This is a great creek side campground at the base of Beartooth Pass. The host keeps the pit toilets immaculate, following COVID protocols. When we travel on our motos it’s so nice to have bear lockers. I sleep better!!
Nice primitive campgrounds outside of Yellowstone. The vault toilets are not too smelly but go earlier in the mornings around 7 and they are not bad at all and contain less flies. The host sells firewood for $5 a bundle which isn't bad. The campground is about a couple hours from the Yellowstone entrance but Beartooth highway has absolutely the most beautiful views from the top. Red Lodge is only about a 20 minute drive, I'd suggest checking out the local brewery there if you have time (great beer and food!). Overall, good campground and conveniently located off the highway, and no cell service.
Great camp site. Views galore and great facilities. We got a first come first serve site. There was plenty of space. $20 per night.
Beautiful campground right on creek. Very quiet. Host was very nice and answered all questions. Pit toilets were clean. Definitely a return will be in order
