Customer Reviews
This place is a hidden gem, It is not a fancy place, but it is clean and well cared for. They can easily accommodate and large rig, and the sites are very wide. Grass is in great shape and they are All pull throughs. The management is friendly and helpful. They know all of the Best places to go see in the area. Bathrooms and showers are outdated, but they are clean and maintained and are functional. I have seen many newer RV parks in worse shape. The prices they charge are very reasonable. I would definitely come back here next time we are in the area
Worst RV park we have ever been to, worst customer service we have ever experienced. Owner was extremely rude when we arrived. Our kids walked across the grass and were scolded (walking to the office). We were called and yelled at at 10:51 that “check out is at 11!!” Extremely rude, not welcoming. She yelled at my husband to unhook our Jeep from our 40 foot RV before entering. Owner starting pumping someone’s septic next to us before 11 am and the smell was so terrible- We checked 8-9 other places within 15 miles and they were all booked- now we know why- cuz this one is the worst. WOULD NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN!! EVER!!
Immediately greeted by owners Pennie and Stan. Pennie gave us so much information of the area with highlights on a personal made map. We appreciate cash only businesses with no hassles and extra fees. Our site was well maintained and plenty long enough for our fifthwheel. Small amount of full hook up but offer pump outs on other sites with very new/clean equipment. Some road noise but not bad from inside RV. Pennie and Stan invited us for bonfire which was very welcoming and appreciated. Every day we saw Pennie she asked if we were having a great time....love that! Loved that being their home, watched everyone coming and going, a perk in our opinion and always available. Very close to Two Harbors and Duluth to catch the big freighters coming and going. Lots of biking & hiking area either at Duluth or State Parks near by. Lots of eatery and shops. Beautiful area, thank you Pennie and Stan for a wonderful week! We camped at Penmarallter Campsite in a Fifth Wheel.
Arrive mid week looking for a one night stay. I always check bathrooms first to see if they are clean before paying for a site. Owner was on her golf cart coming towards us before I got back to our van, got a lecture on stopping by office first, she said "I can explain our bathrooms" really!! Then she said she did not have any tent sites available because they were wet from recent rains. We did not want a tent site we had no tent, we have a camper van. 3/4 of the sites were empty. Now we have 2019 camper van I know it's not a 40 ft RV but it's what works for us, she refused to rent us a space. I understand it's their right but we have never run into this before, we just sold our Minnie Winnie and downsized to a van never thought we would run into this kind of problem. We are 65 years old, in a camper van and the way she was talking to us we felt like we were 9 years old and got caught with our hands in the cookie jar. Rude, unpleasant, would drive on by.
Let me try to clear up some of these negative reviews. I let the few negative reviews here create an impression before I had even arrived, and it was oh so wrong. Pennie was a sweetheart. Shes particular, organized and direct, but even after our deposit debacle she was still very kind and understanding. I can see how some might take her direct approach as rudeness, but I did not find her rude, quite the opposite actually. Both she and her husband were always smiling and waving as they passed by. We stayed for Grandmas Marathon and both Pennie and Stan were out cheering on the runners with smiles and waves. The owners would like you to check in first so they can talk about the campground and show you to your site. I've NEVER had campground attendants take the time to show me to my site and make sure everything is good to go. The sites are huge and very well maintained. Bathrooms and showers were clean and everything functioned as it should. Fire rings, garbage cans... everything was immaculate. It's a very well maintained campground. The highway wasnt horribly loud, but it was noisy, but thats the tradeoff for easy and convenient access. If you're the type that creates chaos while camping then this is probably not the place for you, but if you're looking for a quiet, peaceful, well maintained place to stay then Penmarallter is the perfect place. We will absolutely be back.
