Welcome to Perkins Island, a hidden gem nestled in South Hamilton, MA. This picturesque campground and RV park offers a tranquil escape for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Surrounded by lush pine trees and situated along a serene river, Perkins Island provides a perfect setting for camping, picnicking, and water activities.
Perkins Island is a primitive camping site accessible only by canoe or kayak, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a unique and adventurous experience. The large, shaded campsites are located next to the river shore, offering stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere. Picnic tables are available for day visitors, making it a great spot for a family outing or a relaxing day by the water.
While the camping fees are slightly higher, they support a good cause, as the proceeds go to Massachusetts Audubon. It's quiet, peaceful, and scenic. This part of this river is surprisingly good as a swimming hole. There are picnic tables and large campsites, and any passing boaters are allowed to picnic. The picnic/camping area is a large open shaded area under pine trees next to a river shore. I have to take off a star because the fee is a bit high for a primitive camping site that is only accessible by canoe or kayak. This year it's $32 per family for a membership then $10 a person per night up to $25 per night. So if you want to try camping one night it would cost a couple $52. Yes, the money goes to Massachusetts Audubon which is a good cause. But it's free for anyone to picnic during the day.
Beautiful. Easy paddling to get there.
