Customer Reviews
The park is amazing, camping looks quiet, and the staff is amazing. BUT... the 20 mile drive in on Picacho Rd is great. YES, it's gravel, dusty and bumpy, but the views and scenery are breathtaking. Take your time, stop and look! Wild burros, roadrunners, quail, ..... And the rocks! Just like a trip to Mars. (I think...)
If you can stand the 45 minute drive on the rockiest road ever you have landed at the coolest place in the USA. Wish we knew to stay longer but the two nights there was magical.
Very rough 18 miles, but our RWD Chevy G20 Van made it just fine, so anything more than a Civic should be capable. Awesome place along the river to camp.
Peaceful and quiet. Nice campspots with plenty to explore. Lower dock was closed but didn't matter much. Still plenty to do. Was the only people there for two days. Really made the experience worth it. Fishing is excellent if you know where to go. Caught plenty. Restrooms are clean enough. Ranger didn't bother us at all. Picnic areas are relaxing.
OK, I am not really rating & reviewing the campground because I have not camped there. However, I see it every time I go out to Picacho State Park to kayak or hike around. The State Park is awesome! Way out in the middle of the desert, quiet, peaceful and full of life! The campground is close to the river and is primitive. Perfect for seasoned campers. Every time I am out there there are people camping. Last time there was a little camper trailer and you can haul a trailer out there. Rough road, but doable. It's a beautiful part of the desert and of the Colorado River.
