While some visitors have noted minor drawbacks such as mosquito issues and proximity to train tracks, overall, Pigmans Ferry Hiker-Biker Campsite is a highly-rated option for those seeking an affordable and convenient camping experience along the C&O Canal.
Operable water pump and clean porta potty. Tons of mesquitos. Probably the worst out of the 4 sites we stayed at.
A great free hiker/biker campsite along the C&O Canal towpath trail. Nothing special by campground standards, but it's one of the nicer free spots along the C&O bike trail. Pigmans Ferry is also somewhat farther away from the railway than some other campsites, so the trains horns that continually sound through the evening were not as loud and jarring.
Great spot for a hammock camp.
Enjoyed the argument graffitied on the "trash free park" sign. Pan-gap-c&o June 2020
The big open field here was well maintained and offered plenty of space, but for the most level ground you have to go a long way away from the amenities. Cell coverage for Internet was poor, but my texts went through (Verizon).
