Environment: Peaceful Countryside and Creekside Charm

The environment at Pillow Campground and Resorts is characterized by its peaceful, rural setting, offering a refreshing escape from urban density. The campground is situated just outside the small town of Pillow, Pennsylvania, providing a quiet atmosphere conducive to relaxation. A significant environmental feature is its proximity to the Mahantango Creek, a tributary of the Susquehanna River. Many campsites, particularly the seasonal ones, are located creekside, offering serene views and the soothing sounds of flowing water. This provides a natural attraction for water-based activities and wildlife observation.

The campground is likely nestled among a mix of mature trees and open spaces, offering a balance of natural shade and sunny areas suitable for various camping setups. The ground cover would typically be a mix of grass and gravel, providing stable surfaces for tents, RVs, and trailers. The air in this country setting is generally fresh and clean, often carrying the scent of foliage and damp earth. Seasonal changes are prominent, with lush green summers, vibrant autumn colors, and the potential for picturesque snowy winters, although camping operations may vary by season.

The surrounding area is conducive to observing local wildlife, such as various bird species, small mammals, and potentially deer. The overall ambiance is one of tranquility and natural beauty, making it an excellent spot for those who appreciate the outdoors without venturing into deep wilderness.

Pillow Campground and Resorts offers a comprehensive suite of services and accommodations, making it a flexible choice within the "Campgrounds & RV Parks" sector for diverse needs. It caters to various types of camping units and stays:

  • Motorhomes and Campers: Designated sites are available for recreational vehicles and campers. While specific hookup details (e.g., electric, water, sewer) are not explicitly detailed in the provided information, the mention of "Motor Homes" and "Campers" strongly implies that standard RV amenities like electrical hookups are available, at least for some sites, to support such vehicles. Given the typical offerings of resorts, water and sewer hookups are also likely to be present at many RV sites.

  • Tent Camping: Dedicated sites are provided for tent campers, offering a more traditional and rustic camping experience.

  • Cabin Rentals: For those seeking a more comfortable or less equipment-intensive stay, the campground offers cabin rentals. These typically include basic furnishings and offer a comfortable "glamping" or rustic lodging option. Cabin rentals usually have a minimum stay requirement (e.g., 2 nights regular, 3 nights holidays) and accommodate a certain number of adults and children.

  • Seasonal Camping: A significant offering at Pillow Campground is its seasonal rates, catering to campers who wish to leave their unit on-site for extended periods (e.g., monthly or full season). • Laundry Facilities: A coin-operated laundry facility is available, a practical amenity for longer stays.

  • Honey Wagon Service: For RVs without full hookups, a "honey wagon" service is explicitly mentioned for waste disposal, available at an additional fee per dump. This is a convenient service for campers needing to empty their gray and black water tanks.

  • Picnic Tables and Fire Rings: Each campsite, whether for RVs or tents, likely includes essential amenities like picnic tables for outdoor dining and fire rings for campfires, enhancing the traditional camping experience.

  • Picnic Pavilions: Multiple picnic pavilions are available for rent, suitable for small to large gatherings (e.g., less than 50 people, 50-100 people, over 100 people). This indicates a focus on accommodating groups and events.

The campground also welcomes overnight guests/visitors, with a per-person charge for their presence.

Features: Recreation and Community Focus

Pillow Campground and Resorts' features highlight its blend of recreational opportunities and its capacity to host community and family events, positioning it as more than just a place to park an RV within the "Campgrounds & RV Parks" category. Key features include:

  • Fishing: The proximity to the Mahantango Creek makes fishing a prominent activity, attracting anglers looking for a peaceful day by the water.

  • Hiking: The surrounding country and potentially marked trails offer opportunities for hiking, allowing campers to explore the local natural environment.

  • Hunting: Given the rural setting, hunting may be an accessible activity in nearby designated areas, appealing to outdoor enthusiasts during appropriate seasons.

Nice little campground, but still working on getting back on its feet. Campground was closed for several years, then purchased and reopened this year. There is a lot of polishing needed yet, but the price is good for what you get. Looks like 30 amp at all sites, non potable water, and no sewer. The only bath house is at the front of the campground and is quite a walk. There is a dumpster and dump station on your way out. The sites are grass and stone, mostly level, but not well defined. There are no tables provided, but there was a fire ring off to the side. There are a 2 playgrounds, both are small and dated. Oh, and there is a single power drop and water tap for two sites, so be prepared to possibly run a cable from your door side depending where you park.

It's a nice small and cozy campground. $40 per night for campers with electric and water hookup, you can dump the tanks on the way out. There are seasonal sites and there appears to be openings since it's not full to capacity. There is one cabin that is rented out but not sure of the rates. There are no activities and the bathrooms are plenty outdated but appear to be clean if you can get past the age because that makes it look kind of dingy to me. There is a pay to use washer and dryer, not sure how well they work. The campgrounds is right on the Mahantango creek and it floods here about once a year, pretty badly. Pillow campground just reopened after a three year hiatus due to flood damage, so there is still a lot of creek debris on the ground. The park is kept up nicely otherwise. You can hear noise from the road, sounds like a highway sometimes but it's not a heavily traveled road therefore it's not constant. Butch is the park manager and he goes out of his way to make sure everyone has an enjoyable visit. The camp store and restaurant is permanently closed so make sure you bring everything you need. 7-11 is about 5 miles away and WalMart is about 7 miles on the opposite direction. Other than a few nice swing sets, slides and play cabins there are no other amenities, like swimming pools or bingo nights to occupy the kiddos. The campers here pretty much keep to themselves and it's overall pretty quiet, except the occasional traffic. I think it's a nice place to camp of you're looking to relax at your campsite and not be bothered. If you have any questions you can get the number for the park manager on the pillow campground website, you will get right to Butch and he's always happy to help someone out.
