Overall this campground was really nice, the site was spacious and it had a great view of the river. We were in Site #12. I didn't know when booking this site that it was also the site where they kept the canoes for people to use and where people entered the river. Our first night we had a group of 4 kids running through the front of the site to get to the river. I try to pick sites where there are less people so my dog and I do not have to deal with people. The drive to get into the campground is a bit narrow and there are trees all over. The dump station is a bit backwards and we didn't know that when we arrived and had to dump. We ended up going to the dump station the way we thought we should dump, well the camp host came over and told us that you are supposed to just pull their sewer hose under your camper and dump that way. It was confusing (we were not the only one to do that during our stay). While it might be nice for the camp hosts to help people, to us it felt like they were too helpful. We needed to do laundry while here, and it turns out they have extremely hard water. After doing my laundry one night, I thought my clothes had a metallic smell to them, then the next day they put a sign on the door saying out of order...not sure why. It was a nice place and would likely be more enjoyable for people with kids or younger adults who want to do a river float or canoeing. It was a great central location for us to visit Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument and explore "Golden" Road.
We love it here. We are camp host and will be returning here next year. The owners really cares about their customers and the host who work for them. The campground is beautiful with Beautiful spots on the river, dog friendly, dogs can swim, tubing on the river, canoeing, kayaking, hiking and biking trails close by. They cabins and RVs come with everything you need and are spotless. Summer is quickly ending and fall is beautiful here. Hope to see you!
We had spots right on the river and our stay was great! We have a dog and we go with others who have dogs and kids. The owners treated us very well with each encounter. They reported that they enjoyed watching the kids play all weekend. I leave my old lab unleashed because she stays at our lot and is friendly to all humans and dogs even if the other dog is not friendly. I was expecting to get in trouble for this. I did not, she came over and asked to take pictures of my old girl. Overall experience was great! We will stay here again. We also took a tube ride down the river and that was fun! We are always thankful when a campground is pleasant and not rule sticklers or strict with campers. Great place!! Kids loved the river as did the dogs!!
Our family had spontaneously been looking for a place to camp with our rv that was close to home. I had been to this campground as a teenager and loved it. While not much has changed, it is a great place to take the family for a weekend getaway. The host was friendly and helpful in finding us a site quickly, we arrived late and it was getting dark. The WiFi isn’t great at the site we stayed at but we were there to relax and unplug so it didn’t matter. It was also very quiet in the night and into late morning, which was very nice. We thoroughly enjoyed the weekend we spent here and are looking forward to returning hopefully one more time before winter!!
We truly enjoyed our stay at this riverfront campground. It is a great base camp for all things in the North woods. About 45 minutes to Katadhin woods and waters as well as Baxter and other nature preserves. Only about 10 minutes from fantastic bike trails at Penobscot River trails as well. Sites are large enough for privacy and more than big enough for our 26 ft travel trailer with room to spare (site 15). The campground is extremely well cared for and clean including a very well kept bathhouse. Camp hosts and owner are extremely friendly and helpful.
