We dropped in for the day in the heart of winter. Apparently PGE has rights to drain it for hydro-electric use at this time of year. Well, I would say it really adds to the experience because you can sled down the banks of the lake with the kiddos. Great spot for a picnic, but its up there at like 6000’ elevation, so rug up
Nice day trip from the central valley ,(in California) for an easy hike around the lake. We took a picnic for the opposite side of the lake. For those that prefer a lunch with table and chairs, there are tons of picnic tables for a seated lunch. These are located by parking and the beach.
We LOVE Pinecrest.... it was a yearly summer retreat (all the way from SoCal) for many years. Life unfortunately happens & we haven't been back since pre-pandemic (2019). Miss the Lake, the Movies Under the Stars & the Soft Serve !!! Hope we make it back, it was planned for this Summer (2024) but again, "Life Happens" and were forced to cancel our trip. : (

I love this place. There is so much to do here. There is a hiking trail surrounding the lake that is a great workout and a breath of fresh air. You can swim on the lake itself during summer days although the water is freezing cold. During winter months the place is full of snow and sometimes you can walk on the lake that has frozen over. A great place to visit, especially with dogs!
