A great location to camp! I took one of the two backpacking sites at the Pinewoods campground, site 151. Went in early October so not too many people. Very nice, and the shower building is well kept. Showers are private with their own room and deadbolt on the doors. Price is reasonable for non-residents like me.
Site 266 was the best! Right next to water spigot and pit toilets, short walk to showers, two perfectly spaced trees for a hammock, very secluded. The facilities were well-maintained and the camp host was super friendly when buying wood and ice. The hiking trails were great and the beach was awesome. Highly recommend!
This is a huge camping area with three state loops including one quiet area where no music or pets are allowed. The spaces are very large with plenty of privacy. You have to reserve on line but there appears to be issues with their website as it will show the camping area as full regardless of dates entered. We were in the area for two weeks and it's best to reserve your site early in the week. Our guess is that is closes out sites based upon percentages of ones filled as even sites marked as full, clearly stayed empty - every time. The showers are decent. There's one shower building with real toilets. Plenty of shower stalls. The outhouses are not maintained daily and clearly marked as such. There's lots of bugs in the outhouses (baby biting flies). Maybe bring a fly strip 😉 Overall, a good camping experience. The host is gracious and willing to help when he's in.
Sites 1 -36 are a quiet loop ! Volunteer hosts are very nice and friendly.
We are regular visitors to Pinewoods. We always have a wonderful time. The sites and trails are very well kept. Only reoccurring negative is the bathrooms. Both the pit toilets and the flush toilets need far more attention than they recieve.
