Pioneer Campground is located at 4204 Forest Rd 4142, Paradox, CO 81429, USA. This address places it in a relatively remote and undeveloped part of western Colorado, near the small and aptly named town of Paradox. The setting is ideal for those seeking solitude and a genuine wilderness experience, away from heavily trafficked tourist areas.
Access to the campground involves navigating a dirt road, described by visitors as "quite winding." This means that while standard vehicles can likely reach the site, travelers should be prepared for unpaved conditions, especially after adverse weather. The journey to the campground itself is part of the adventure, offering "amazing" views from higher elevations as you approach. It is advisable for visitors to drive cautiously and be aware of their vehicle's capabilities on unpaved roads.
Due to its remote nature, Pioneer Campground is best reached by private vehicle. Public transportation options are non-existent in this area. Major towns like Moab, Utah, are a couple of hours' drive away, serving as the closest hubs for extensive provisioning. This remote location, while requiring preparation, is precisely what contributes to the campground's quiet charm and pristine natural environment, appealing to Coloradans who value true tranquility and a disconnect from urban conveniences.

Great little spot! The campsites are well spaced apart and had plenty of space for a couple of tents per site. Very clean facilities. No running water at all at this campsite so be sure to bring your own drinking water. We enjoyed taking our kayaks and having a paddle on the lake. Very relaxing!
Hope you like cows! Yes, cows. They are all over the surrounding property and noisy as hell. Not exactly what I was expecting when camping. Otherwise it's a lovely campground. The road to get in and out is dirt and quite winding but the view from the top is amazing. Paradox has nothing as far as services go so you'll want to make sure you have everything with you or you'll be driving a couple hours to Moab or another town for supplies.
Nice CG, cheap rates, good sites and facilities but the FS access rd from Paradox Colo is very very steep!!...better have good brakes on way down...pulling a TT is doable but stressful due to steep roads. Miles of graded rocky gravel rd to get to CG. Lake is not very large or scenic as just a man-made impoundment. NO CELL SERVICE DEAD ZONE FOR VERIZON AND TMOBILE. Paradox Colo has no services that I could tell so come fully fueled. Three stars due to crazy steep rd and no cell service.
Good place to get away. Lake is drained due to sink hole. Roads coming in are bumpy in places but passable by all. Built in 2010 so everything is in good condition. All spots have a table, fire pit, cooking stand and parking off the loop. Harder to access and distant but worth it if you want a little escape.
Peaceful and exceptionally clean. The lake is low but the large pine trees are beautiful. A few sites are open enough for Solar panel power and Starlink Internet, though most are too shaded. I would come back again.
