Family Camping Activities for All Ages: Games, Hiking, and Campfire Fun
Explore family camping activities that bring all ages together, from outdoor games and scenic hikes to memorable campfire fun that creates lasting memories.
For us Wyoming locals, Cody holds a special place in our hearts. It’s a town rich in Western heritage, a vibrant hub of summer activities, and often our last convenient stop before venturing into the vast wilderness of Yellowstone National Park. When planning a visit to this iconic town, finding the right place to stay that offers both convenience and comfort is key. That’s where Ponderosa Campground steps in – a popular choice for RVers, tent campers, and even those looking for a unique glamping experience, all within easy reach of Cody's best attractions.
Ponderosa Campground isn't just a place to park for the night; it's a bustling hub that combines the amenities of a full-service campground with the charm of a friendly local business. While some campgrounds prioritize seclusion, Ponderosa embraces its in-town location, making it incredibly easy to walk to many of Cody's renowned museums, shops, and restaurants. This balance of accessibility and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a go-to spot for families, groups, and anyone looking to immerse themselves in the "Rodeo Capital of the World."
The experiences shared by previous guests highlight the campground's accommodating nature, clean facilities, and the unique offerings like their teepees, which provide a memorable twist on traditional camping. Whether you’re stopping for a night or settling in for an extended stay to explore the region, Ponderosa Campground aims to make your visit to Cody enjoyable and convenient, truly living up to the spirit of Western hospitality we pride ourselves on in Wyoming.
Ponderosa Campground is centrally located at 1815 8th St, Cody, WY 82414, USA. This advantageous address places it on the southwestern edge of downtown Cody, providing exceptional accessibility to the town's numerous attractions. For us Wyoming locals, navigating to the campground is straightforward, typically involving a short drive from the main highways entering Cody, such as US-14/16/20.
What truly sets Ponderosa Campground apart in terms of location is its walkability. As noted by a guest, it’s a "great location to walk all over town." This means you can leave your RV or vehicle at your site and easily stroll to the famous Buffalo Bill Center of the West, explore the historic downtown shops and restaurants, or catch the nightly Cody Nite Rodeo (a shuttle bus stop is often available right at the campground). This central position is incredibly convenient, saving on fuel and parking hassles, and allowing for a more relaxed exploration of Cody's vibrant atmosphere. While some larger rigs might find the internal turns a bit "tight-ish" or need to watch for tree branches, the overall accessibility to town amenities far outweighs any minor maneuvering challenges for most campers. It serves as a perfect home base for exploring not just Cody, but also as a convenient stop on the journey to or from the East Entrance of Yellowstone National Park.

Its unparalleled location, allowing us to walk to the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, local shops, and restaurants, is a huge benefit. The cleanliness of the restrooms and laundry facilities is consistently praised, ensuring a comfortable stay. Ponderosa Campground understands Western hospitality, making you feel welcome and cared for. This campground is a great location to walk all over town. People are super nice. Yes sites are close together but we spent very little time there. The dog park is tiny. They have plenty of room to make it bigger but it's maybe 10x20, I've had bedrooms bigger. Not good for larger dogs. Laundry was nice, store was nice with an ATM. Watch the trees, we backed in our motorhome and a tree just about took out our awning. 3 feet away at the base but leaning in, maybe more suitable to a class c not an A. Weird that all the utilities are not in the same area. Water towards the back of the RV, power in the center and sewer under the RV in the back. And it seems each site is a bit different. First site they gave us our hoses wouldn't reach the water because of a tree in the center we had to angle in. First world problems! All in all best for location location location
I took family from out of state camping and they loved the whole teepee experience. We were close to the river which was great for wading and loved the sound of the moving water. The space was huge with lots of trees, picnic tables and grass. The restrooms were very clean! Wish we could have stayed longer!
We stayed in the small cabins. It was comfortable and convenient, we were traveling with a dog. The restroom/showers were kept clean. They accept cash only, so plan ahead. Air conditioner would have been nice but we made due. There is a small heater and a TV.
Right in towns with full hookups and nice store. Well maintained and clean everything you could need. Nice staff. Walking distance into downtown and the Cody Museum. The tour trolley stops at the park throughout the day. Great price.
We have stayed in this CG before, because it is so central to what Cody has to offer. (especially the museum of the west, which is why we come to Cody) The folks that checked us in were super nice & informative. That’s where the positive ends…… Be careful what space these folks give you. We have a truck camper only need 22 foot back in. That was 55 bucks & was an AWFUL, tiny & cramped. We went back to the office & asked for a reasonable back in. Okay, sure, if you pay 20$ more! The bathrooms are dated & worn. Need a massive redo. Not coming back!
