Great yearly trip. Stayed in sites 13 and 14 it's across from the campground there's only two sites but you're the only two. Mono Hot springs is about 25 minute drive towards lake Edison. They have a store ice water and groceries are available. There was still snow on the North face of Kaiser pass road is easily passable just nice to see. Trout fishing was great we used spinning lures. Powerbait seems to work good but we wanted to release them.
This is not a place for parties and loud music. It is very tranquil and peaceful. Families fishing and enjoying nature. There are not many fallen trees nearby, so bring your own wood.
Been coming up here since I was really little. My grandfather came up hunting with my dad way back in the day and I grew up coming here to hike and fish. It is very quiet and relaxing. It is the perfect spot away from the noises of civilization.
Been coming here for years since I was little. Good quiet place to fish and camp. People tend to keep to themselves but the road is a bit scary at times... especially when traffic is coming from both ways.
It seems Portal Forebay Campground always has a large crowd, but I would prefer to continue to either Florence or Edison. We stayed at Portal Forebay Campground once and it felt a lot hotter during the day and colder at night than in Jackass Meadow. Okay spot to camp, it the road is closed for going further.
