Booking a weekend here was such a great choice to relax and unwind from a busy life. The cabin, fire pit area, and every thoughtful detail were so cozy, creating a welcoming atmosphere from start to finish. The amenities were wonderfully provided, with everything we needed for cooking and even necessities for our dog, like bowls and an outdoor leash making it an ideal pet-friendly getaway! As for bugs, I noticed a few comments about them in other reviews. Since the cabins are nestled near wildlife and forests, it’s natural for bugs to be around, especially when you’re coming and going from the cabin. Just something to consider if you’re staying close to nature. I’d love to try and are excited to book cabins at another of your locations soon.
We are obsessed. We stayed in a cabin for 2 nights at the Barber Creek location in Grans Junction, MI (a short drive from Chicago). We had the very best weekend together. The cabins were spotless clean and came with everything we could have ever needed, including an am/fm radio we surprisingly loved! The bed was so comfy, the kitchen was perfect, and we loved the private feel. Bonus - the giant window is so incredible!
We celebrated our one year anniversary here. We absolutely loved our cabin. It was super nice! One of the best nights sleep in a long time. Super clean and the interior was well maintained. Definitely worth the visit.
Our first Getaway cabin in Starved Rock was awesome so we thought we'd try a different location. The location is beautiful, it's a great area to take a walk and enjoy nature. We also loved the fire pit area. We did have some issues - the shower is terrible. The shower head is mounted in such a way that it spray aggressively towards the wall so the water gets everywhere except where it needs to be. There was also no body wash in the dispenser. It smelled like mold. Also, there were a bunch of ants and stink bugs. We spent the first hour in our cabin gathering bugs and getting them out of the cabin. I will say that the staff responded quickly to a firewood refill which was great. Overall it was an OK experience.
The last time we stayed here we had major issues with the heater not working in November. Took forever to get someone to come out. It was pretty clean, smelled strange though but we overlooked it. The scariest thing was that someone was walking around knocking on doors and they said they verified it was not someone staying there. As a single female traveler this was unsettling, especially because there’s no number to call, only text, and service was spotty. Train is loud. I don’t recommend this location as a “remote” environment. Lastly, their refund policy is extremely unforgiving as others have mentioned. No changes (without fee) or cancellations 14 days before your stay, regardless of circumstances. I had an illness (for which I am getting surgery) and they didn’t care. I saw someone else posted there was a death in their family and no refunds for them either. Wild for such an expensive place… which is another note… the pricing has gotten ridiculous for what it is. Customer service is very much lacking. Nothing like it was a few years ago. I even checked to see if they sold the company- guess it’s just greed. Anyway, hundreds of dollars down the tube for them to have no one staying there. Hope they enjoyed their free no clean up weekend. We were big advocates in the beginning, but they’ve turned into money grabbers and nickel and dimers. We won’t be back.
