Pottawattamie County Fair Campground caters to the latter, providing essential services at a competitive price. It’s particularly noted for its self-check-in system, offering flexibility for arrivals. Let's delve into what you can expect from this local campground and why it might be exactly what you need for your next trip through Pottawattamie County.
Pottawattamie County Fair Campground is strategically located at 307 W Lincoln St, Avoca, IA 51521, USA, placing it directly within the Pottawattamie County Fairgrounds. This makes it an exceptionally accessible spot, especially for those traveling along I-80 (just 1-3/4 miles south from Exit 40 on US 59, then 200 yards west on West Lincoln Street). Its proximity to a major interstate makes it an excellent choice for a quick overnight stop for RVers passing through Iowa.
The campground's location at the fairgrounds means easy navigation and often open, spacious areas for parking. While it might not offer the secluded, deeply wooded feel of some state parks, its advantage lies in its convenience. It's a short walk to downtown Avoca, allowing campers to easily access local eateries and experience the charming small-town atmosphere. This blend of highway accessibility and town proximity makes it a practical choice for many Iowans on the go, or those attending fairground events.

- Play Area for Kids: The fairgrounds typically include a play area for children, which can be a convenient feature for families with young campers.
- Open Year-Round: The campground is open all year, which is a significant advantage, particularly during winter months when many other campgrounds are closed. This offers flexibility for those needing a place to stay outside of the traditional camping season.

Customer Reviews
You get what you pay for. Trash floats about the property, very unkempt place, dog poop everywhere, before you park and set up walk about to check where to park, make sure there is water on that site, self check in, not a quiet area if school is in session. Good enough for one night stay in passing.
It is a go-to stop over. Sites have electric, water and sewer hook-ups. It is a self-check-in, so you get what you pay for $25. Bathroom is the weakest link. It is hard to imagine that anyone would be brave enough to take a shower in there, but then again someone was comfortable enough to "settle" in with all their soaps and shampoos, etc.
Awesome little campground! Quiet, lovely. Full hookups, nice tall shade trees. If you don't need the bathrooms, don't use them as they are rough. But for $20 it's perfect!
The camp area was nice enough. There are not many fire pits or picnic tables. However, the bathrooms are terrible. It appears they haven’t been cleaned in some time, if ever.
Good over night stop in rv. Easy off and on highway. Host and long term campers very friendly. One of the long term campers drove us to the grocery store so we didn't have to disconnect our toad. Then took us for a tour of the small community providing information.
