Stayed at the River Bend Campsite at the beginning of the week so there were a lot of available sites. All the sites with the exception of the ones near the camp entrance were well shaded and were well spaced from each other so that campers aren’t on top of each other. Most were back in, but there were a few pull throughs. All were modern gravel sites with plenty of room. There was enough room to park 3 cars if I wanted to on my site (#23). Power, water and Verizon were good. Site wasn’t level, but the wasn’t to steep to correct with on set of blocks. Bathhouse was super clean with good hot water. The trails were well maintained and could easily accommodate a hike/bike/horse and if you canoe or kayak there were several launch sites available. The camp host and Rangers were excellent. Always smiling and friendly!! And to the lady Ranger at the Office (no name tag), get on those venders to resupply the stuff you ran out of!! Told you I’d put you my review ha ha. All jokes aside this Ranger was also super nice and she felt bad because they were out of certain park specific items. Guess I will just have to come back for them and to enjoy the park again.
This is a very nice small State Park with good Walmart walking trails. There's a wonderful river that flows through but unfortunately no kayakers new rentals available here they have a campground can you launch some riverfront access points. A camp store with limited items. Overall a nice well-maintained Park Jeff fun come out and enjoy any time of year. Today is the annual paw paw festival which if you don't know is fruit native to Virginia and is available on lots of trees throughout the park if you're interested in tasting
Lots of trails, be careful when walking on trails. I saw a pretty good size black snake with white stripes on it. Very pretty. Canoe accessibility.
Such a great State Park and campground!! The bathrooms/ showers and laundry facilities we sooo clean. Plenty of space and privacy between sites. Lots of trees!! The sites are level-ish gravel pads. We only had water and electric on our site. The laundry was cheap $1.50/load. There are plenty of hiking trails! The surrounding fields were really pretty. I only interacted with one staff person and she was really friendly. Overall, the campground is really peaceful. On occasion you might hear distant road noise or a train, but it’s really not noticeable. If we need a site in the area again, We will definitely come back!! We had cell service good enough to do our remote work- 2bars with Verizon and seemingly better with AT&T
Nice state park. $5 parking fee. We parked down by the canoe launches and walked down River and Gold Dust Trails. Our son enjoyed using the canoe launch to walk right down to the water. There were bluebells and wildflowers everywhere on the trails and the walk along the James River was beautiful. Playground and restrooms were well kept and clean.
