Customer Reviews
Terrible road. There are only a few sites now. No creek. Nice views. There are not many bugs. Saw wild turkey, nothing else. Won't be back.
Terrain was rough, took a 29ft travel trailer to spot 2 probably not a good idea any farther. Must be good at backing up. Dusty during dry seasons. Would have been a five but lots of cars coming up and down the road, sheriff and rangers constantly stopping to talk or to say we've seen you before (first time ever here). We spent 6 days in a 7 day limited spot went to an RV park to dump, clean and refill water. Spent our paid 24 hrs. Came back to another 7 day spot completely different, on a whole different road to be told we've been here too long.... Yet there are quite a few ppl camped there for our whole time here in the same spot. We left for 24 hrs and got harassed by rangers on our 3 day at a whole new spot that he's "seen" us before and we can only be in the Prescott basin for 7 days. I wanted to yell what about that guy (our camping neighbor) who's been there for over 2 weeks. Great spot but geez they need to pick and choose who they harass. Otherwise place was peaceful, after the fact. Definitely watch out for rain season as most camps are rivers. Lots of trash from those ppl who live or just don't care. I picked up about 3 huge bags and took them to the Costco gas station to put in trash.
4 stars for beauty and seclusion - lost a star due to garbage, TP, and the road was a bit rough (a few rough spots with rocks/holes, but most of it was ok, I saw regular cars going up and down this road-it was dry). It's truly disbursed, no water, no services, so haul it out people! Even the sign when you 1st enter states a shovel & pail are required to camp there. The area was beautiful the campsite was lovely with the exception of the trash and evidence of 'going in the woods' left behind buy previous campers. There was even a set of old crusty boots and pieces of someone's car at my site. The first site I pulled into had one rope still attached to a tree and you could see massive areas where all the bark had been rubbed off the twin trees so I think someone was living there... there was also a fresh container of pastries underneath the tree, but no one was there unless they were hiding. (I suspected they were, so moved on to a cleaner/nicer site down the road). Cell service was limited. I only was able to get 3G 1-2 bars max, it was functional for voice, text, GPS, but hit or miss for other data. Not many cars going by on the main road in/out, so felt pretty secluded at night. The photo with my car in it shows how big #7 is - that is the whole site! You could easily park 3-4 cars in there, but it was hard to get your car level. I would stay there again only in my vehicle (as I did this time). I would not feel safe or sanitary in a tent there, and you need to look around for dead standing trees "widow makers". There were several along the edge of the road that were tall enough to fall across and land in my site, so position yourself carefully. These trees were not flagged, but if you arrive during the day, or have a good flashlight, they are easy to spot. Hope this helps. God bless!
ALERT!! ALERT!! WARNING!! Not made for rv or trailer longer than 14ft! Very narrow turns and deep terrain. roads are very uneven and slippery. If you don't have a 4x4 don't go down there. Towards the top is the only safe spots to camp with a travel trailer or rv. We stayed towards the entrance for one night at in the very front spot. ONE WAY IN ONE WAY OUT!! It is a very nice spot for tents or very small trailers. Also has awesome trails.
Be aware of rough terrain as the road is in rough shape. We got a flat tire on sharp rocks on road, camp sites are pretty good.
