For Kansas residents, especially those near the Kansas City area, it represents a quick and accessible escape into a beautiful natural setting without sacrificing the option for modern conveniences.
The true value lies in the experience of waking up right on the water's edge, an option available at the primitive sites, or having the convenience of electric and water hookups at the standard sites. Reviews consistently praise the peacefulness of the area, making it an ideal destination for unwinding, kayaking, and simply enjoying the scenic views. Unlike some campgrounds that feel crowded and loud, visitors frequently describe their trips as having a private, "place to ourselves" feeling, fostering a deep connection with the outdoors.

The combination of excellent fishing, proximity to hiking and biking trails, and clean, accessible facilities (like the fire rings with grates for cooking and the close-by bathhouses) solidifies Quail Run as a top-tier destination in Hillsdale State Park. The lake was nice, the campground itself was good. HOWEVER, I have never seen so many spiders in my life! They were everywhere! Got up the first morning and had to fight my way out of the camper! In all seriousness, we probably had over 100 full grown spiders on our camper and in the kayaks! The shower house was spiders everywhere also. In the shower stalls and toilet stalls. I realize camping is nature and spiders are nature, but in the showers? Now, if I can get my mind off the spiders for a minute... we saw animals that were cool, we saw two eagles, several heron, and an armadillo. So, in a nutshell, it was quiet, people were friendly, but if you have arachnophobia...
We went on a Sunday Monday trip. We were very lucky to have place to ourselves. Very pretty. Right on the water. The views were amazing. Loved the area. The bathrooms were close enough. And there was also a wash station too. There is a large fire ring with a grate so our cooking was excellent. We were able to really star gaze.
Wonderful! Bathhouse was sooo clean! Quiet. Well monitored. Boat pull up area. No boat slips or dock in this area but easily monitored from our camper. Hookups. Picnic table, firepit
Very nice spacious level spots for larger RVs. Quiet and family friendly. Truly enjoyed our week here.
Love camping right on the water.
