Customer Reviews
It's a beautiful place with a lot of nature to take in. We stayed at a cabin by the lake, and it had a fine-sand beach. The wind was really strong while we were there, so we had to do without the campfire or grill because there was a burn ban. I went as a kid, so I wanted to take my kids 30 years later. The website advertised lots of fun stuff, a fun park with rides, paddleboats, ATV riding, fishing, etc. The fun park wasn't operating. The paddleboats weren't either, in fact, the dock where the paddleboats were was overgrown and in total disrepair. I saw no ATVs whatsoever. They have a restaurant, which I treated us all to on one of the nights. Unfortunately, it wasn't the great experience I'd hoped. Firstly, it seemed like there was some event for another group that we got some leftovers from. Second, and certainly not a smaller issue, my daughter and I ordered the chicken fried steak, and both ended up with some kind of food poisoning or something. We ordered some water to drink, and it smelled and tasted bad, so we ordered other drinks. Three different servers helped us, but that's not to say that they were super attentive, I had to get up and go over to them to get refills for our drinks, boxes to go, and the check. Anyway, definitely not what we'd hoped, and it wasn't a cheap trip . The beach that was just outside our door was beautiful but completely littered with broken glass. The mountains were great, we enjoyed that part of it. There was a fireplace, but no wood was provided. Other than that, the cabin was fine. Overall, I paid quite a bit for our experience, but many of the amenities were either not available or not good. It made me very sad and just a little angry because most of the things I'd hoped to share with my kids just weren't there. We'd like to go back someday, maybe, but definitely not anytime soon and not until they fix the problems. I won't pay all that money to go, though, we'll just pay the small fee for camping. I'd ask for a partial refund because of the missing things and bad experiences, but I feel like that wouldn't go anywhere because it's a state park. The lodge itself seems well maintained, and they looked as if they took good care of the guests there. Oh well, you live, and you learn. At least the mountains were good and the scenery was pretty. I'd suggest saving yourself a little money and just taking a tent or RV.
We love it out there. Beautiful scenery. Great hikes, and relaxing spots on the many beaches. Running water and Flushing toilets at some sites, portable out houses at others. Showers are by the campsite near the boat launch. Garbage cans are throughout. Parking is $8 for the daytime. Scan and follow link on posted signs.
We went camping and hiking here on our first trip in our new camper. The park is amazing and the staff are so nice! We will be back again.
Easy trails to walk along the lake. We walked the twin peaks trail and the tom creider cave trail and we had lots of fun and loved the view of the water
We're visiting all the state parks and we went to Quartz Mountain State Park for Independence Day weekend. We hiked up Sunrise Trail, we visited the ATV area, we walked to the dam, and we swam in Lake Altus-Lugert. We had our own spot on the beach and weren't crowded at all. It was beautiful that day and we had the best time. We can't wait to come back and camp.
