First time taking a new RV 1983 Ford Honey, 24ft and don’t think I could’ve picked a better spot. Quiet, peaceful and beautiful views around you. Staff is extremely friendly, check in was easy, guided to spot and firewood delivered. Very sweet ladies at the office. Gravel roads well maintained and nice bathhouses/property. I especially enjoyed the Cave tours more, Michael our guide was amazing and one of the friendliest people. Very informative and knowledgeable, I learned so much about caves and even saw a few salamanders! Great experience overall, would love to come back.
We camped here years ago, back in the mid 1980’s. At the time, they had a water slide, an Alpine Slide w/ski lift, a cabled hang glider & cable car as well as the cave. Sadly, I think all the extra attractions are now gone but the cave is a definite must see. Very easy walking path & the tour guide was fun & knowledgeable. The campground was very clean, staff were super friendly & the campground was clean & is definitely worth staying at.
The campgrounds are very nice, well maintained and conveniently located. The slips are clean & neat and a good size, we would definitely stay again if in the area. ***But the highlight of the property for us (grandparents, parents and kids alike) was the cavern tour*** The caverns are gorgeous, far less commercial than Ruby Falls and just prettier overall. Scooter was fun and informative, he answered the ton of questions we asked and was even great when we ran across a never before encountered rabbit on the tour. Raccoon Mt, Caverns are a must-do when in Chattanooga!!
Michael was our tour guide. He is very knowledgeable. He did not rush through the tour, was very patient and appears to take a genuine interest in the history of Raccoon Caverns. The cavern is a very unique and a beautiful place to visit. We opted to go here instead of Ruby falls after reading multiple reviews about it being over-commercialized and people are herded through the tour as the information is played over a speaker (unless you pay extra for a tour guide and have to be there first thing in the morning).
This was our second stay at Raccoon Mountain Caverns and Campground. The staff is extremely nice and it’s an easy check-in process. The sites are full hook up and plenty of room between. We were escorted to our campsite and bad weather was expected that night. They told us the safe place would be in the actual cavern. They said they would come around and let everyone know if we needed to evacuate our motorhome or travel trailer. Also, the caverns are absolutely beautiful. There is about eight people per guide and you get a really good tour through a beautiful lighted underground cave. I have not been to Ruby Falls since I was a child, but my granddaughter was recently at Ruby Falls and she said Raccoon Mountain Cavern was much more beautiful than Ruby Falls.
We went exclusively to the caverns for the living cave tour. Our guide, Devon, was incredibly knowledgeable. I felt like I just experienced an episode of The Magic School Bus. It was fantastic. The cave is much darker than others with more colorful lights instead of blazing white to minimize stressing the little critters. It made for an entirely different atmosphere. Very cool.
This is an awesome campground! The people are so friendly and very helpful. They valet you to your site and make sure you are all good. This is very helpful when it's dark. The views are so beautiful of all the mountains. This is close to all the major attractions and Walmart is only 5 min away if you need anything! They work hard at keeping the property and amenities (pool, playground, and grounds well taken care of. They have a small store and a freezer full of ice cream. 😊 we would 100% recommend staying here!
We stayed here in March, first time in Chattanooga. This place has a great location. There are tons of beautiful hiking trails very close by and the caverns are SO COOL! We did one of the crawls and it was challenging and so fun. Our guide was awesome, showing us how to navigate some of the tricky areas and pointing out baby salamanders and one tiny bat we had to sneak past. There are RV sites, cabins and tent areas at this campground. We stayed in one of the “budget” sites. Meaning it didn’t have cable, not something we care about. There are cool spots to hang out and it’s a decent size to walk the dog around. There is a good size dog run too. There is a playground and some lawn games. The bathhouses were clean, though showers are very short, as in height. Laundry is paid with a credit card. It’s clean and works great. You’ll need it if you do one of the cavern crawls!
We visited Raccoon Caverns last Saturday, and it turned out to be a truly memorable experience. Our guide was fantastic—knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about the cave’s history and ecosystem. She not only shared fascinating details about the cavern formations but also introduced us to the local flora and fauna. One of the highlights was seeing a salamander up close—something I had never seen before! While Ruby Falls was nice, I believe Raccoon Caverns truly deserves more attention and appreciation. It’s a hidden gem that offers an authentic and enriching experience. If you’re visiting Chattanooga, I highly recommend adding this to your itinerary—you won’t be disappointed. Plus, the people in Chattanooga were incredibly kind and welcoming, which made the trip even more special
