Raccoon Ridge Campground Introduce
Are you a Missourian looking for a truly immersive outdoor experience, where the rustle of leaves replaces city noise and the beauty of a vast lake is just a short stroll away? Raccoon Ridge Campground, nestled within the picturesque Harry S. Truman State Park near Warsaw, MO, offers a genuine escape into nature that’s perfect for both seasoned campers and those new to the great outdoors.
This campground provides a classic camping adventure, set amidst a beautiful, heavily wooded landscape that offers ample shade and a true sense of seclusion. While some recent visitors have noted aspects like the uphill walk to the shower house or the distance to the lake, these points often speak to the campground's natural, sloped terrain—a characteristic that also provides lovely views and a sense of being truly "in the wild." As one camper shared, "The camp area was nicely shaded," and another noted, "Site 48 worked great. There is a trail at the end of the loop that takes you to the lake." These comments highlight the natural setting and the direct connection to Truman Lake, which are key attractions for many Missourians seeking an authentic outdoor experience.

Big rocks forstairs in my camp site 32. The shower was a long walk up hill. The woman's shower house was very dirty, no hot water two showers didn't work. It was a far walk down hill to lake . The camp area was nicely shaded.
Nice campground inside Truman state park. The campground loop slopes down a hill. It's a steeper slope to walk up to the shower house from the end of the loop. Site 48 worked great. There is a trail at the end of the loop that takes you to the lake.
This was a nice campground, and I would have given it less than 5 stars for reasons I'll mention later, but you can't hold it against a park if they have a bug infestation. The sites are big and private, you're right near a lake that is beautiful and relaxing, and there are hiking trails within the park. Plenty of activities and the shower facilities are decent, although not sparkling clean- they could use an update. The CHIGGERS literally fall from the trees here. We got so infested, we had to leave early to get away from it. It was a shame, because we were really enjoying our time here. Not sure what the state can do about the issue, but they are due for a ripe fumigation of these nasty insects around the campsites..if they can even do anything about them. We noticed this issue throughout Missouri, so I'd give the state 2 stars for that, and this campground gets five because it has a lot to offer. Wish the water was closer to some of the sites; we had to lug our drinking water pretty far from the spigots. Zero cell reception on Verizon, and no wi fi.
It has good spots for tents or travel trailer campers and even bigger RVs. Cell phone signal service was okay for T-Mobile but terrible for Verizon. Lots of trailheads to choose from for nature walks with your dogs.
Beautiful land, great place for a week getaway!
