Even though we had cloudy/gloomy/rainy weather during our stay, this place was so great!!! Driving there is beautiful; and we were close to the river. The bathrooms were constantly checked on (I was super grateful for being provided sanitizer!!!), and there are nice dressing rooms! The host Kelly was absolutely amazing with our group as well! We camped at Campsite B. I was very happy that there were many tables there for our big group! I believe there were 4 tables and a pit with a grill on it. I will definitely be visiting this location in the future again 😃
Wonderful campground with well kept camping areas and toilets. Lots of parking and easy access to the river. The wind in that valley was particularly brutal compared to the surrounding areas, and there's no tree cover, so bring your own shade. The trains are fairly loud, but nobody in our party found them too obnoxious, though your mileage may vary. All in all a great site that we'll be visiting again in the future!
Excellent for whitewater rafting!! If you don't have your own equipment, check out High Plains Outdoors! They're amazing too!!
[visited on GDMBR] the worst camp ground so far on the route. No attention to detail at all. Most sidewalks are totally overgrown aka impassable if you are handicapped. You can only get a spot if you reserve online but there is no service in the route. A sign says there is service 10.5 miles east of Radium but no biker does 20m for that. After 7 unclaimed spots go public a least. Get some hiker-biker sites and potable water. Camp host wasn’t very friendly either. If you filter the river water is okay for a day.
The county closed the FREE O. C. Mugrage campground that had lots of trees and shade and was just up the road where I have camped for the last 35 years. So I was forced to pay to camp here where it was windy and there was no shade !!
The area is gorgeous, the campsites are level and convenient to restrooms. The three star rating comes from the unfortunate experience of having a dog from the nearby ranch bark literally all night. Nothing anyone at the campground can do, of course, but it was pretty bad. Maybe there were coyotes? I love dogs, I have a barker, and it still kept me up. Put in the ole ear plugs and I slept like a baby!
