The Appalachian Trail shelter has space for about 6 people, plus lots of space for tents in the open spruce forest behind the shelter. A moldering privy is also located behind the shelter. Water for the campsite comes from Rainbow Stream. The AT crosses the stream just in front of the shelter. Just upstream from the shelter are a few very nice swimming holes.

The best place ever to spend a long, rainy night on the AT - well, maybe not the best, but most likely the first or the last one! The privy only smells during hiking season, the stream only floods when you walk across the foot bridge, and the rats only bite when it's dark outside!
