Ralph River Campground Introduce

Nestled along Westmin Rd in Comox-Strathcona D, BC, Ralph River Campground offers a tranquil escape into nature. Surrounded by old-growth trees and the soothing sounds of the flowing river, this rustic campground provides a peaceful retreat for campers and RV enthusiasts alike. The sites are spread out, ensuring privacy and a sense of seclusion, making it an ideal spot for those looking to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

One of the standout features of Ralph River Campground is its proximity to Buttle Lake. A couple of short, well-maintained trails lead you to the lake, where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery and even take a refreshing swim in the warmer, shallow waters. The river, on the other hand, is known for its super cold temperatures, perfect for those who enjoy a brisk dip.

The campground is a haven for star gazers, with no cell reception or street lights to interfere with the night sky. However, it’s important to come prepared, as the campground offers only outhouse/pit toilets, which can be a bit rustic and may have some flies. The park rangers do their best to maintain cleanliness, but it’s always a good idea to bring your own sanitizer and other essentials.

While there is no general store on-site, the park rangers occasionally sell firewood, though it’s a bit hit-and-miss. Ice is not available, so be sure to pack accordingly. Despite these minor inconveniences, the natural beauty and well-maintained trails make Ralph River Campground a favorite among nature lovers.

  • Rustic campsites with old-growth trees and private, spread-out sites
  • Beautiful short trails leading to Buttle Lake
  • No cell reception or street lights, perfect for star gazing
  • Outhouse/pit toilets available, though basic
  • Park rangers sell firewood occasionally, but no ice or general store

Customer Feedback:

  • "We camped there this past Labour Day weekend. First time there... it is a rustic campsite, lots of old growth trees and sites are spread out and more private. The sound of the river flowing is really nice."
  • "Very beautiful campground, well maintained, no cell service, bathrooms cleaned every morning - however about 20 flies would come out of the toilet and wasps get stuck in there so it was a little stressful to go to the bathroom."
  • "The lake is so beautiful and lots of shallow area to swim. The river water is super cold but the lake is warmer."
  • "Sites were a little dusty but no big deal. The main issue was the mice got into our car overnight and ate into all of our dry goods so HIGHLY recommend sealed snappable containers for all food even if it's in the car."

We camped there this past Labour Day weekend. First time thereĵ.. it is a rustic campsite, lots of old growth trees and sites are spread out and more private. The sound of the river flowing is really nice. There is a couple of beautiful short trails to Buttle Lake. The lake is so beautiful and lots of shallow area to swim. The river water is super cold but the jlake is warmer. No cell reception and no street lights at night so it's a fabulous place for star gazing. Outhouse/pit toilets only and they are 'meh' condition, lots of flies and a bit nasty looking. The park rangers do come regularly but the sanitizer dispenser was broken the entire time we were there. Also, there is no general store to get woods and ice. The park rangers sell woods but it's a hit and miss to find them. They do not sell ice, so come prepared. Luckily we didn't have mice problem and the wasps problem was not that bad..

Very beautiful campground, well maintained, no cell service, bathrooms cleaned every morning - however about 20 flies would come out of the toilet and wasps get stuck in there do it was a little stressful to go-to the bathroom. Sites were a little dusty but no big deal. The main issue was the mice got into our car overnight and ate into all of our dry goods so HIGHLY recommend sealed snappable containers for all food even if it's in the car. Beach was beautiful and trails by the bridge were taken care of (except one large tree that you have to climb over). We did have to leave a day early because of the forest fire slightly north of us and all of our stuff got covered in ash, but otherwise we would have stayed the 3 nights and been really content.

Went to Ralph River Campground on June 22, 2023 and great view and walking trail nice. Very large log on the middle of the campground. Park Operator is very nice and helpful. There is No Playground on this Campground. New Outhouse are very clean. No Swimming Allowed on Ralph River and Beach Access due to wildlife protection. If you want go to swimming, you have to drive to Karst Creek Which Group site which they had Boat Launch and very hill to exit the park or there is Lupin Falls Day Use Area which allowed swimming take 20 minutes to get here. I Recommend to go to Buttle Lake Campground to go Swimming which take 30 - 35 Minutes drive to get here and back.

This is a great campsite, fairly far away from civilization. You’re far enough from the neighbouring sites and it’s quite private. Toilets are nice and new, staff keeps them clean and stocked. Great location as a base camp for many challenging hikes such as Mt. Myra. It’s close to the lake but water levels were quite high in July which made access a bit tricky. Rangers sell firewood when there’s no ban.

Nice dry campground, with lots of space and privacy. Several spots to access water for swimming. There were several open sites even though the campground was full.
