Customer Reviews
**BED BUGS AND HORRIBLE MANAGER TO DEAL WITH** Hoping to save everyone the headache I have been navigating with this hotel. I am not typically a read the reviews type of person and now I wish desperately I had as it sounds like a lot of people have had similar inconveniences with poor customer service responses from the manager. We always book hotels through hotels.com and never had an issue before. We booked a night at the Ramada and after speaking with family members in Campbell River who know the hotels well it was shared with us that the hotel has bed bugs. When looking deeper into the reviews from others there are many posts of bed bugs and even a photo of them. I tried to call multiple times and was unable to get through as the confirmation email had their fax number listed instead of their actual number. When I went through the hotel.com chat I was assured I would receive a follow up email from the hotel and never did. When I finally found the correct number and was directed to the manager she stated they never received my cancellation however later in the conversation said her front desk staff cancelled it at 10:20pm the night of our reservation which is not possible. The hotel front desk staff and manager told me that I had to get the refund through hotels.com because they didn't receive the payment however when I spoke to hotels.com they said the hotel did in fact receive the payment so after stating I spoke to hotels.com the manager then changed her story to say they did have payment and wouldn't refund it because I didn't cancel in time even though I did. The manager told me to come check the room for bed bugs myself which I would not risk doing ever. The manager lied multiple times throughout the phone call trying to shift blame, before becoming short, rude, and refusing refund. Extremely poor customer service as stated by other reviewers as well. The manager is clearly in the wrong career path as they have 0 compassion for others and would have happily shut me down with lies if I didn't contact hotels.com myself and come prepared with truthful information.
The hotel is showing its age, and the room we stayed in looked like it was last decorated in the late 70s. Apart from being a little old, the room was clean, the beds were comfy, and we had ample room to spread out and relax. Will definately stay again. Bonus: the restaurant right next door is exceptional. Just go there. It’s very popular so I recommend an early seating or a reservation.
We came into town in the evening but did not have a reservation. Austin checked us in. He honored the online price we provided him and found us a room that was exactly what we wanted but didn't know hotels still had amenities like this one does, which was a highlight of our trip. Austin was friendly and helpful and a pleasure to deal with. He really set a positive note for the hotel overall. The room was clean, had an amazing jacuzzi tub and a beautiful ocean view. It was perfect. The breakfast provided was over and above. There was a great selection of food and it was kept full by a wonderful cook who was friendly and personable, the food was as good as any restaurant. My only note would be I wish we had known that we could leave tips for her as we only had cards and she certainly deserved them for service and quality of food. This hotel has amazing staff and wonderful amenities. We will definitely come back again!
If you value, service, comfort, and economy, more than seeing the most modern aesthetics, you will be very happy here. A person should read all the reviews to understand that this is an quite aged facility, with breakfast, the pool, and the reception desk all in different buildings. We were travelling with pets and especially appreciated that the room had a very durable hard floor at the door where could dry the dogs on a wet day, and the carpet was a dark pattern that completely alleviated our worries about paw prints from anything we couldn't dry off with a towel we brought and the two utility towels the hotel provided on request. The beds were excellent, 3 pillows on each bed was much appreciated, and there was an ample supply of towels even before we asked for utility towels for the dogs (before going to the room). The breakfast was excellent (for a free continental breakfast). The eggs had two options, at least one having meat and cheese mixed in, and there was hot bacon, in addition to cereal and yogurt and waffles and fresh fruit and such things that you would find most places. Amongst the options at the beverage counter was hot chocolate, which I haven't often seen elsewhere. For the money, I think we received exceptional value and hope your stay feels similarly.
I was quite impressed with the rooms here! There was complimentary tea and coffee and kettle in the room, the bathtub was large and comfortable, as were the beds. No wear on any of the furniture, and everything was very clean. The outside of the property looks a little worn down, but the inside was excellent. Would highly recommend for those traveling with pets!
