Worth the drive. We drove through Rocky Mountain national park and over into Walden to stay at ranger lakes. Very remote but has more than enough of the amenities you would need camping. There’s hiking, fishing, biking, dispersed camping literally everything out here. Dispersed calling us some off-road entries and also book up quickly but have amazing views.
Love this place. So beautiful. Saw many moose. Restrooms smell pretty bad though. Our campsite was across the road and down a bit and we could still smell them when we sat outside. Also the fire ring was full of charred logs. Not sure we could have had a fire had we wanted to.
We loved this campground! We had site 128, and it was perfect. Next to the trail to the lakes, a stream at the back, short walk to the bathroom, we were able to hang our hammock, and lots of space for the kids to play. The site was well leveled and easy to back into. Be aware the campground host was never around, and we had to buy firewood at Moose Visitor Center, none available at the campground when we went. No big deal. The state park is gorgeous.
Parking lot for Ranger Lakes is small but usually adequate. The lakes are usually great fishing. Watch for Moose and give them lots of space. They can be dangerous.
Great spot to camp to enjoy nearby hikes to American Lakes and Lake Agnes. Plug-ins and clean bathrooms. Saw a couple moose.
